I guess Michael Irvin’s sweet sideline kisses last week didn’t do the trick.

Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not start the season opener against Miami on Thursday night after having an emergency appendectomy on Sunday afternoon.

Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett confirmed the surgery and said that Pittsburgh coach Bill Cowher has already announced that backup Charlie Batch will start. Roethlisberger, who could be discharged as early as today, is considered week-to-week.

Roethlisberger told the Steelers medical staff that he has been up all night vomiting and had stomach pain when he came to the training facility Sunday morning. The staff put him through a short examination and quickly sent him to the hospital.

A doctor who did not wish to be identified because he is unfamiliar with Roethlisberger’s condition said it generally takes two or three days before an average person is released from the hospital after an appendectomy.

The surgery rarely has any long-term side effects, meaning that Roethlisberger should be able to play relatively soon.

One concern is a patient losing weight and strength in the short-term. Roethlisberger had already lost approximately 20 pounds after a motorcycle accident he suffered June 12.

Roethlisberger was told he nearly died in the crash, but made a quick recovery despite several head injuries because he wasn’t wearing a helmet.

Roethlisberger recovered quickly enough after the accident that he was able to play in the exhibition opener for the Steelers.

Cher’s son Elijah Blue Allman has slammed his mother’s former lover Tom Cruise, insisting he should stop talking about his personal life because “people aren’t buying into his whole act”.

The Believe singer dated Cruise in the 1980s, before he made Top Gun and, according to her son, the pair even lived together.

Allman, who is Cher’s son with musician Gregg Allman, claims Cruise has changed significantly over the years.

He tells American publication Us Weekly, “He was totally different. We lived with him for a couple of years.

“(Now) he shouldn’t be trying to help his career by talking about his personal life. People aren’t buying into his whole act.”

Allman made headlines last week when he appeared on the raunchy Howard Stern radio show and revealed that after he had sex with Paris Hilton he scrubbed down his private parts with bathroom cleaner Tilex because he feared he had contracted a sexually transmitted disease from the aspiring singer.

Troubled Black Hawk Down star Tom Sizemore will star in his own reality show on US cable channel VH1.

The actor will attempt to repair his damaged reputation after several years of bad publicity that has been well documented in the US tabloids.

Sizemore has had a long battle with drug addiction and was convicted in 2003 of assault and battery against his former girlfriend, ex-Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss.

He was sentenced to 17 months in jail and four months in a drug treatment facility after repeatedly failing drug test last year and was caught using a prosthetic penis sewn into his boxer shorts and filled with a clean urine sample kept warm by a heating pack to fake the results of his drug tests.

Also last year, approximately eight hours of celebrity sex tapes were released on the internet starring Sizemore.

VH1 senior vice president of series production Jeff Olde says, “You literally watch a man come unglued and unravelled from his own point of view. He lays it all out there.”

Actress/singer Christina Milian has fallen on hard times after being dropped by her record label and has resorted to selling her clothing on eBay to make money.

The R&B star was dumped by Def Jam records earlier this year, just one month after her third album So Amazin’ made its debut.

The struggling singer is desperately searching for a new record label and has been forced to sell her clothes on the auction website for some quick cash, according to entertainment news website Tmz.com.

A source says, “Christina has been using a lot of her own money to go out and promote herself, and she’s not rich.”

Milian isn’t the only cash-strapped star selling her wardrobe on the site - Tori Spelling also has designer duds up for auction.

The rumors of plastic surgery were confirmed by Jessica Simpson - she had her lips enhanced!

Simpson, who is to star in the upcoming film ‘Employee of the Month’ says her fuller pout was not natural and that she hated the results. Simpson says she used protein-based gel Restylane, which is reportedly safer than traditional collagen. “I had that Restylane stuff. It looked fake to me. I didn’t like that. But it went away in, like, four months. My lips are back to what they were. Thank God!,” Contactmusic quoted her as telling Glamour magazine.

Meg Tilly has written a new book about the horrible sexual and physical abuse she suffered at the hands of several male relatives and acquaintances throughout her youth. The 46-year-old star turned her back on Hollywood in 1994 and moved to Canada to raise her family out of the spotlight.

She decided to write about her painful past in her new book, hoping that by her coming forward she could help others. Tilly, whose sister is actress Jennifer Tilly, tells People, “You spend the first part of your life - or at least I did - trying to fix things, but you realise that you’re constantly choking on your own truth. I kept thinking there are other kids out there in these types of (abusive) situations. And I just don’t want to carry secrets.”

Tilly grew up in such grim poverty that she and her siblings were sometimes forced to catch and cook squirrels and snakes. The actress says her stepfather was a pedophile with a sadistic streak and that he routinely beat her.

She recalls, “I remember the sounds of the belt coming through the loops. He’d whack you across the face. He’d whack you anywhere.”

The situation didn’t get much better when Tilly’s mother split with her stepfather and moved the family in with a boyfriend she describes as “a monster” when she was 13. She says, “He would all of a sudden pull out the butcher knife and decide you were all going to be killed.”

Tilly credits her children for giving her the strength to go public with her harrowing ordeal adding, “When you have children, you ask them to tell the truth. How can you ask that if you don’t do it yourself?”

Celebrity on-lookers included Diddy, Chris Brown, Mandy Moore, Nick and Vanessa, Usher, and more. His on stage surprises were just as impressive and included TI, Three 6 Mafia, N*Sync band mate JC, Will I Am of the Black Eyed Peas, and of course Timbaland. Justin kicked off the night with Cry me a River and premiered many new songs from his new CD which showed a harder edge with strong vocals and great beats.
