Halle Berry names baby daughter
Halle Berry has given her baby girl a name that means ‘Honeybee’ in Arabic.
The 41-year-old actress and boyfriend Gabriel Aubry have called their newborn daughter Nahla Ariela Aubry.
“We didn’t have a name picked out until just before we left the hospital,” she told a US entertainment show. “For us it was hard to name the most important person in our life until we met her.”
Berry gave birth to baby Nahla on Sunday morning, at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. It is her first child with model boyfriend Aubry.
Michael D. Cooperson, the associate professor of Arabic at UCLA, confirmed to People magazine that the name means ‘Honeybee’.
Gabriel’s sister, Eugenie Aubry, said she was delighted at the news.
“I was so happy when I found out,” she told People. “It’s been a long time since we’ve had a new baby in the family. It’s very exciting.”
Eugenie, who lives in Canada, said the Aubry family were planning a big bash in Montreal to welcome their newest family member.
“We’re going to have a big party for them,” she said. “My father is so happy right now.”
She added that she was thrilled to hear Halle had been learning French and wanted to bring Nahla up to be bilingual.
“I’m a Quebecer and it’s great that she is learning how to speak French,” Eugenie said. “I’m glad that the little one will speak French too.”
Halle began dating Aubry in November 2005, after meeting him at a Versace photoshoot.
She made no secret of her wish to become a mother and previously said she would adopt if she was unable to conceive naturally.
In October last year she told US talk show host Oprah Winfrey she planned to try for a second baby as soon as the first was born.
