DJ AM was back on the decks for the first time since surviving a fiery plane crash.

The visibly scarred celebrity disc jockey, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, joined Jay-Z at a special concert Wednesday celebrating the reopening of the Hollywood Palladium, the historic venue which once hosted the likes of Frank Sinatra, “The Lawrence Welk Show,” Led Zeppelin and the Emmy Awards on its more than 11,000-square-foot circular wooden floor.

The concert was 35-year-old DJ AM’s first performance since surviving a Sept. 19 plane crash with former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker at the main airport in Columbia, S.C.

Two pilots and two other passengers were killed, including Barker’s assistant, Chris Baker. After the crash, DJ AM received two skin-graft surgeries on his neck and arm.

Before Jay-Z appeared in front of the crowd Wednesday, DJ AM unceremoniously slipped onto stage alongside an eight-piece back-up band. He was lively throughout the concert – scratching, rapping along with Jay-Z and flashing hand gestures throughout the rap mogul’s energetic set. After “Show Me What You Got,” Jay-Z called attention to his “special guest.”

“Make some noise for DJ AM tonight,” Jay-Z said before also giving a shout out to Barker and the crash victims.

Many audience members clamored to see the packed show from VIP sections in the Palladium’s two balconies overlooking the main floor. After closing last year, the venue received a $20-million renovation and is being leased by the concert promotion company Live Nation. The makeover included restored chandeliers, several new exits and wheelchair ramps.

DJ AM is also scheduled to resume his residency at Caesars Palace’s Pure nightclub in Las Vegas next Tuesday.

Travis Barker has been released from the Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Georgia and is on his way back to Los Angeles. His rep issued this statement: “Travis is doing great and was discharged this morning. He has left Augusta.”

Travis and DJ AM were both admitted into the Joseph M. Still Burn Center nine days ago after a plane crash in South Carolina took the lives of 4 people. Travis suffered second and third degree burns to his torso and lower body. DJ AM was released from the hospital this past Friday.

ADAM “DJ AM” Goldstein went from “the fat kid from Philly” to the hottest deejay on the club scene – but as the former flame of Nicole Richie and Mandy Moore tells Glamour magazine, along the way he went through abuse, rehab, abandonment and depression. Goldstein’s father, AM says in the magazine, verbally abused him for years before his mother kicked him out of the house when AM was 14. “I spent the next two years doing drugs every day, until I went to my mom and actually asked her to send me to rehab,” he told Glamour. Goldstein ended up in a center which he terms “an abusive house of horrors” where he was trapped until he turned 18. “When I was 20, I started freebasing cocaine. For the next four years, that’s about all I did – with the exception of deejaying,” he said. “At 24, I felt like my life was over.” He put a loaded .22 in his mouth and cocked it, but, “The gun didn’t go off.” Goldstein, now 34, said it’s been “9 ½ years since I’ve had a drink or taken drugs . . . but I’m still a drug addict.”

Yet another of DJ AM’s relationships has ended, though this time it was he who supposedly showed his modelicious girlfriend of four months, Jessica Stam, the door. Insiders say that unlike AM’s last girlfriend, Mandy Moore, who is known for her low-key mindset, “Jessica was extremely high-maintenance.” The tipster told us, “He didn’t see her because she was always traveling, and when they were together, they would just argue.”

DJ AM is once again without a starlet by his side. Friends of Mandy Moore said the singer/actress has kicked the DJ to the curb and is single again. AM, real name Adam Goldstein, used to date Nicole Richie, and after they broke up, told friends he needed to date another high-profile person because his ratings were plummeting. A rep for Moore said, “We don’t comment on her personal life.”
