Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer have called it quits, multiple sources confirm to PEOPLE.

“They had a great time together but they are just in different places in their lives right now,” says a source of Aniston, 39, and Mayer, 30, who kicked off their courtship in April.

A friend of Mayer adds that a reconciliation isn’t necessarily out of the question: “He never ends things with a clean slate. He likes to dwell on these relationships and sort everything out before saying goodbye for good.”

The split was first reported Wednesday by the U.K.’s Mirror, which said the couple split earlier this week, after initially deciding to spend some time apart.

Reps for Aniston and Mayer have declined to comment.

OK! Magazine seems to think that Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer are getting hitched….say it ain’t so!

In the coming months, Jennifer Aniston will be celebrating two major milestones in her life: turning 40, and marrying the new love of her life, John Mayer.

“She’s at an age where she is thinking with her head not just her heart,” a source close to the actress tells OK!, adding that the event will take place this fall. “No way would she still be with anyone if marriage wasn’t a real option.”

When Jen married Brad Pitt eight years ago, they spent $1 million on the ceremony, which featured a gospel choir, four bands, fireworks and an estimated 50,000 flowers!

But this time around, Jen wants something entirely different. “She doesn’t want anything elaborate or showy,” one friend tells OK!.

With best friend Courteney Cox as her matron of honor and godchild Coco Arquette as her flower girl, Jen will have all the attendants she needs or wants.

With both of them sharing the same laid-back and down-to-earth lifestyle, friends say Jen and John, 30, are made for each other.

“They are just a perfect match,” says a friend. “And everything about that will come through in this beautiful wedding.”

Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer were together again for the second stop on his summer tour, which hit St. Louis Thursday night. But rather than acknowledge her presence in the crowd, Mayer teased his audience about interest in his personal life.

“[Fans] send me links from PEOPLE,” he said, marveling at the coverage of his remarks the previous night when he – with Aniston in tow – joked about being the subject of Internet rumors. “That just tempts me to say things.” The audience at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in the St. Louis suburb of Maryland Heights roared its approval, but Mayer would not divulge any intimate details.

Instead, he playfully peppered his nearly two-hour concert with dubious confessions designed to feed those who were curious about his private life: He fears the color green. He weighed 400 pounds when he was 12. He wrote the lyrics to the Kenny Loggins hit “Danger Zone” – at age 9. And he was “33 percent done” with building a time machine.

“When I was a child I would kill small animals and wear their teeth as necklaces,” he deadpanned. “True. Print that. And I’ve always felt deep down that I was born a woman.”

Aniston remained out of sight during the show, but she watched Mayer’s pre-concert soundcheck from the fifth row of the amphitheater, according to radio contest winners who sat a few rows farther back. She wore a slate-colored dress and a cardigan in the damp, late-afternoon air. “She looked like Colbie Caillet,” said a witness, referring to the “Bubbly” singer who served as Mayer’s opening act. “But it was definitely Jen.”

Other fans clearly had Aniston on the brain.

During musical breaks between acts, the twin video screens flanking the stage displayed anonymous notes sent via text message from the crowd. “Team Aniston!” wrote one.

The most brazen of the bunch, preceding Mayer’s own onstage joking: “John, I’m pregnant. – Jen.”

Our spy says: “Jennifer spotted Kimberly and asked John what she was doing there.

“John and Kim know each other from clubbing in LA, but Jennifer doesn’t want anyone around who reminds her that he used to be a player.

“She has fallen head over heels for John, but she’s scared it will all go wrong again.

“Another woman stole her man before when Angelina Jolie started dating Brad Pitt - she couldn’t bear it to happen again.”

But Kim wasn’t giving up without a fight…

Ten minutes after being told to leave, she was on the side of the stage, waving at John and cheekily catching Jennifer’s eye while she was taking photos of her fella.

We hear: “She had been told twice by security that she would be removed but she stood there bold as brass.

“Jennifer was on the opposite side of the stage and John felt like piggy-in-the-middle.

“He saw the tension and told his bouncers to get rid of her at all costs.

“Kim was pulled off the stage and escorted through the Hard Rock VIP tent with a face like thunder, shouting: ‘Why doesn’t he want me here? Is this because of her?’ “She totally embarrassed herself, but Jen looked relieved.”

Somehow we can’t see these ladies being best Friends anytime soon…

The highly anticipated film production of TV series Friends has finally been given the go-ahead, MailOnline has learned.

Cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer will reprise their roles for a big-screen adaptation ‘within the next 18 months’, according to insiders.

The actors have been inspired by the recent success of Sex And The City, which recently hit cinemas worldwide.

A source said: ‘Jennifer, Courteney and the rest of the cast are keen to reprise their roles, under the right circumstances.

‘The box office success of Sex And The City has really got their wheels spinning about how a Friends film could be just as big, if done right.

‘Timing and the script are really important, but now that Courteney and Jen both have production companies, they can potentially get very involved in those decisions.’

Talk of a reunion for the loveable gang from New York’s Central Perk has been bandied around Hollywood ever since the show aired its final season in 2004.

While Cox, 44, LeBlanc, 40, Perry, 39, Kudrow, 45 and Schwimmer, 41, were believed to be keen on the reunion, Aniston, 39, is believed to have dragged her heels.

Now, however, she is keen to move ahead with the project, which will be produced by Warner Bros.

The source added: ‘As the biggest star of the Friends franchise, Jennifer can’t help but look at what’s happened with Sarah Jessica Parker and the Sex And The City film and be a little jealous.

‘What’s held back a Friends movie so far is that people were worried that Jennifer had simply become too famous to play Rachel again.

‘But the truth is that Jennifer is finally willing to do it, and she’d love to work with that whole team of actors and producers again.

‘She says she and Courteney have already talked this summer about what they want out of a Friends movie, and if deals can be made with them, everything else can fall into place rather quickly.

‘It really comes down to money, and I don’t think Jen has a problem with all of the Friends getting huge paydays for the movie.

‘In that sense, it’s Sex And The City all over again. There’s no movie unless you can reunite the whole cast and keep them all happy financially.’

The Sex And The City film, which had series star Sarah Jessica Parker as a producer, is headed for a global box office total of well over $300million.

That number exceeds all pre-release expectations and insiders say US studio Warner Bros is now mining its recent library of TV hits for other projects ready for the movie treatment.

The source told MailOnline: ‘Friends is at the top of the list of properties that can do the same level of business Sex And The City did.’

Since going their separate ways, the actors have stayed in the entertainment sphere, with varying success.

Aniston, who depicted lead character Rachel, has starred in a series of romantic comedies but her professional endeavours have been overshadowed by romantic upheaval.

Following her divorce from Brad Pitt in 2005, she endured a reportedly volatile relationship with actor Vince Vaughn before recently embarking on a romance with musician John Mayer.

Courteney Cox, who depicted neurotic Monica, enjoyed relative success with her TV show Dirt, where she played a ruthless tabloid media mogul.

Lisa Kudrow, who co-starred as ditzy folk singer Phoebe, continues to work in film - but mostly lower profile independent ones.

Matt Le Blanc has laid low in Hollywood since the failure of his Friends spin-off series Joey, passing on TV and film roles to focus on his home life.

David Schwimmer, aka Ross, now seems most comfortable playing the role of movie director. He recently directed hit comedy Run Fatboy Run.

“There’s an amazing man who’s wandering the streets right now, who’s the father of my children,” she said. “In five years, I would hope to be married and have a kid…Maybe it’s a fairytale, but I believe in happily ever after.”

A report in Life & Style magazine that Jennifer Aniston wanted to exclude her He’s Just Not That Into You co-star Jennifer Connelly from a group cover shot for Marie Claire is “absolutely absurd,” Aniston’s rep told Usmagazine.com.

“There is no drama whatsover,” Aniston’s rep clarified.

“Marie Claire wanted Jennifer alone,” the rep said. “It was our idea to make it a group cover as Jennifer has a smaller supporting role in the film.”

The magazine “only wanted to put three of them on the cover” and “definitely wanted” Drew Barrymore, according to the rep.

“We recommended Ginnifer Goodwin because she is basically the lead role in the film,” the rep explained.

And contrary to the report, “Jennifer got along great with Jennifer Connelly.”

“She’s just so happy and giggly. It is completely out of character,” said one spy.

The reason can’t just be that she is dating John Mayer. No one is that happy with Jessica Simpson’s sloppy seconds. What we hear is there is a certain feature of John that leaves Jen so pleased. The crooner’s ex-paramours reveal he is hell to get over, not because he’s a great guy, but because he’s a “great” guy, if you know what we mean.

“His body actually is a wonderland,” one ex was overheard saying.

Another spurned Mayer galpal was less than psyched last week that the new couple was swooping into town from Miami. “Friday Night Lights” star Minka Kelly couldn’t check out of her room at the Ritz fast enough, just as Aniston was spotted checking in.

Not long after he returned to New York City after his visit to Miami, Mayer visited his longtime stylist, Sally Hershberger, for a haircut. (Us Weekly reports that Hershberger references photos of Farrah Fawcett and Michael J. Fox before giving him his new feathered ’80-style coif.)

Even Hershberger was curious about his trip to see Aniston. The magazine reports that she asked about his time in Florida. “He said he had a blast. He was bouncing off the ground happy as a clown,” Hershberger revealed.

As for his new tattoo sleeve, a source close to Mayer said that the complicated design “tells a story about loves lost.” OK! magazine probed a little deeper and was told if there is a theme of loves lost, “it doesn’t include any mention of Jessica Simpson.” Ouch.

John Mayer is playing it cool when it comes to his romance with Jennifer Aniston.

“Listen, this is not a scandal, this is not an issue, this is not a problem, this needs no spin control,” the singer, 30, told Entertainment Tonight at Monday’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in NYC. “This is me living my life.”

“Jen and John looked very happy together,” said an eyewitness.

“They felt so comfortable with each other that they ate of each other’s plates. Jen had a bite of John’s ham sandwich between bites of her chopped chicken salad. And they shared a chocolate-peanut butter candy bar dessert.

Jennifer Aniston and producing partner Kristin Hahn have formed Echo Films, a company that will start with a first-look deal at Universal Pictures.

Aniston and Hahn have already made several project acquisitions, most of which will be developed as star vehicles for Aniston.

The studio has just acquired screen rights to Jane Fallon’s British bestseller “Getting Rid of Matthew,” and Aniston and Hahn will produce with Lynda Obst and Marc Rosen. Fallon, a veteran U.K. TV producer who is married to Ricky Gervais, will adapt her novel about a hard-charging publicist whose lusty affair with a married man is ruined by his decision to leave his wife and two children for her. She invents a new persona, befriends the spurned wife and attempts to patch up the marriage up so she can be rid of him. In the process, she develops a thing for his oldest son.

Universal and Echo also have tapped the book market to acquire “The Divorce Party,” a Laura Dave novel that Viking will publish in May, with Gwyn Lurie (”The Man Who Ate the 747″) aboard to write the script. As a husband and wife reach their 35th wedding anniversary, they hold a party to announce their divorce. It creates complications for their son, who returns home with his commitment-shy fiancee.

Aniston and Hahn have made a script deal at U for “Counter-Clockwise,” a script by Paul Bernbaum (”Next”). It’s a true story based on a study conducted by Harvard prof and psychologist Ellen Langer in which she tried to reverse the aging process of subjects by re-creating the era of their prime. Aniston and Hahn will produce with Gina Mathews and Grant Scharbo. Echo has also has a U deal for “Love: Todd,” a Kristen Stavola-scripted drama about an aging tennis pro-turned-coach who gets schooled by a precocious teen tennis phenom. Aniston will produce with Hahn, but isn’t planning to act in the film.

The Echo partners have a deal at Overture for “Chemistry,” a David Sussman-scripted dramedy centered around the fact that romantic love and obsessive compulsive disorder demonstrate similar brain chemistry.

They have a DreamWorks deal on “The Goree Girls,” a fact-based adaptation of Skip Hollandsworth’s Texas Monthly article about a falsely convicted woman who gives purpose to her fellow Texas inmates by starting one of America’s first all-female bands. Aniston plans to star, and John Lee Hancock is rewriting a script by Margaret Nagle.

Aniston and Hahn have been working together since Aniston was a partner with Brad Pitt and Brad Grey in Plan B, and Hahn, an exec producer on “The Departed” and New Line’s “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” co-directed the docu “Anthem.”
Echo’s emphasis will be on producing grounded, relatable material, the partners say.

“We particularly like working from books and real-life stories about distinct characters that embody something relatable and relevant about human nature’s double-sided coin of vulnerability and mettle,” Hahn said.

That theme prompted the company’s name, Aniston said.

“We’re drawn to stories about people finding their voice and finding their way because they help us as listeners and viewers do what we feel we’re all trying to do, which is making sense of our lives through the stories of others,” Aniston said. “That’s why we chose the name Echo, to echo back an idea, a challenge, something that resonates through all of us.”

Aniston is shooting the David Frankel-directed “Marley & Me” at Fox 2000 with Owen Wilson and has wrapped the Stephen Belber-directed “Management” for Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, as well as several other pics.

The star took a break from filming her new romantic comedy Marley & Me to spend the day lounging by the ocean in her luxury resort.

Jennifer, who was joined by a female companion, soaked up the sun in a daring barely-there hot pink bikini.

The former Friends star has made the most of her free time while staying in Florida - last week enjoyed a spending spree at Bal Harbour Shops with stops at Chanel, Ferragamo, Gucci, Neiman Marcus and Prada.

She is also said to be getting close to the her co-star Owen Wilson, who plays her husband in the adaptation of John Grogan’s memoir.

A crew member told American magazine Star last week: “The hugging didn’t end when the cameras stopped rolling.”

“They were very flirty together, far more than you would expect. In between takes they were hanging onto each other. They are very friendly.”
Owen, who has also been catching up with his ex Kate Hudson in recent weeks, has known Jennifer for a number of years - she dated his Wedding Crashers co-star Vince Vaughn.

Jennifer has been linked to a string of men since her divorce from Brad Pitt in 2005.

In recent months, she has spent time with Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom and her Traveling in Vancouver co-star Aaron Eckhart.

Angelina Jolie’s brother James Haven says that it’s likely his sister canceled her scheduled appearance at an Oscar pre-party last month out of respect for Jennifer Aniston.

“Angie is an incredibly strong but also incredibly sensitive woman, and she would always be careful when another woman’s feelings are concerned,” James tells Grazia magazine.

Brad Pitt’s ex-wife was one of the co-hosts of the Night Before Party at the Beverly Hills Hotel on February 23, and both Brad and Angie were scheduled to attend. But Brangelina mysteriously pulled out of the fundraiser at the last minute, even though earlier that day the couple attended the Independent Spirit Awards, where the actress had debuted her burgeoning baby bump. James believes that it’s possible she was trying to spare Jennifer the pain of having to face Angelina’s pregnancy in person.

“She’d go out of her way to make sure there was no situation that would hurt another woman because of her, and I’m talking about a situation like one of Brad’s ex partners or his ex-wife.”

Brad and Jen were married for five years before splitting in January 2005, amid speculation that he had been getting close to Angelina on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Less than three months after the breakup, Brad began dating Angelina. The couple now have four children together and one (possibly two!) on the way.

The 39-year-old isn’t pregnant yet, but Star reports she’s put her eggs on ice until Mr. Right comes along.

“It was a really smart move, because it buys (Jen) a few years to figure it all out,” an insider told the magazine. “The pressure has lifted.”

The insider claims Jennifer could postpone having her first baby until she turns 45, and with ample resources and plenty of stamina, the actress isn’t worried about the wait. “She has loads of energy. And she’s so rich that she could just hire five nannies!”

Before making the decision to freeze her eggs, Jennifer considered other options, according to another Star source. “Her friend Sheryl Crow turned her on to the idea of adopting, but in her heart Jen would like to have her own child. She just needs the right man — someone she can trust.”

Everyone who was hoping to see a smackdown between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s ex Jennifer Aniston at the Night Before party last night was sorely let down when Brangelina decided to attend the Independent Spirit awards instead. Jennifer was in attendance at the Beverly Hills Hotel for the star-studded Night Before party, which benefitted the Motion Picture Television Fund, and was also attended by A-listers George Clooney, without girlfriend Sara Larson, Seal and Heidi Klum, and Jake Gyllenhaal. But the Friends star left after barely an hour and headed back to a private bungalow at the hotel.

The party, at the Beverly Hills Hotel’s exclusive 1912 bar, was the hot pre-Oscar party in town. Two men were even arrested trying to get in using fake credentials and were taken away in handcuffs.

The Jolie-Aniston face-off wasn’t the only awkward Hollywood run in that was avoided. Yesterday morning, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise had breakfast at the posh Polo Lounge in the Beverly Hills Hotel, narrowly missing Tom’s ex-wife Nicole Kidman, who showed up for a business lunch with mega-producer Harvey Weinstein. The two are rumored to be working on a movie project together. Tom wasn’t the only ex pregnant Nicole missed. Later in the evening, her former boyfriend Steve Bing dropped by the Polo Lounge and joined a large party in the front of the lounge.

Also in the Polo Lounge was designer Roberto Cavalli, who stopped by PageSix.com’s table to say hello as well as producer Brian Grazer and Russell Simmons. Christina Applegate enjoyed a cigarette outside with a friend. Around 11 p.m., new parents Nicole Richie, wearing a short black skirt and her hair up in a messy ponytail, and Joel Madden arrived and were escorted by security who took them both into the men’s restroom — together. Despite the rainy weather, the pair then headed outside to a private table under heat lamps.

Partygoers didn’t just rub elbows with Hollywood’s most powerful, including Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg, but also left with a pricey gift bag fit for Hollywood’s elite. Attendees were asked their shoe size and then were given custom designer tennis shoes. They also received loads of high-end cosmetics, and played a MAC Cosmetics trivia game. The winners received a $2000 laptop.

Although the party was abuzz and the Polo Lounge was hopping with famous faces, not everyone thought it was the hottest ticket in town. As Elton John left out the back entrance with an entourage, he told PageSix.com, “My party is better.”

Is Jennifer Aniston moving or just cleaning house? A moving van appeared outside the Malibu home of everyone’s favorite Friend on Tuesday. Among the items getting hauled away: Various boxes and an elliptical cross trainer. Perhaps she’s given up cardio now that she’s become a yogi.

“I was crying through moves,” Aniston told Self magazine after taking up yoga last year. “It’s good to get that stuff out. You feel like you’re having a therapy session, a workout and a meditation at the same time.” We hear you, Jen. Exercise makes us cry, too, which is why we avoid it all costs.

The actress’ rep did not respond to calls for comment.

Jennifer Aniston has chosen American football star Tom Brady as the male face of energy drink SmartWater. The former Friends star was recently photographed by Mario Testino for a SmartWater advertising campaign.

And Aniston, an investor in the company, now wants the New England Patriots quarterback, who is dating supermodel Gisele Bundchen, to do the same.

An insider tells American magazine OK!, “Not only does she think he can sell water, but he makes her want to take a cold shower!”

If Jennifer Aniston could be anyone else, she knows exactly who’d she’d choose to be.

“I would love to be Oprah – for just one day,” the actress tells Harper’s Bazaar in the magazine’s 140th anniversary issue.

Aniston and Winfrey have been pals for some time, and last year the talk show host shot down rumors that she was planning a $1 million wedding for the actress and her then-boyfriend, Vince Vaughn.

Continuing the line of questioning about Aniston’s fantasy life, she’s asked what she’d do if she worked for the government. “I’d be a spy. A very glamorous spy who plays poker and lives in Monaco,” she says. “And has affairs with Daniel Craig.”

Talking more seriously about her life as one of the most recognizable faces in the world, Aniston, 38, recounts once walking 40 blocks in New York City without anyone noticing her.

“If you can get away from the paparazzi and they don’t know where you are, you can actually walk, walk, walk,” Aniston says of the city where she is contemplating living again.

“I don’t know, I’m just tired of Los Angeles,” she tells the magazine, which goes on sale Oct. 23. “In New York, you’re not just in that same car, looking at that same dashboard, driving down the same street.”

As for dealing with what both critics and the public think about her, she says she no longer pays attention to it. “I used to care a hell of a lot more about what people said or thought. But that had to change when my life was under a microscope being scrutinized and my personal life was being talked about,” she says. “You have to go, ‘This is not acceptable in any way,’ whether it’s about me personally or in business, success versus failure.”

The actress, who is currently filming the comedy He’s Just Not That Into You, also defends her box office record saying, “I’ve read things that said I wasn’t successful at the box office or that my big hit was The Break-Up. But I said, ‘Wait a minute. There was Along Came Polly, which did really well, and Bruce Almighty was a pretty big movie.’ ”

Still, Aniston expresses surprise at her own massive success on television – and isn’t afraid to poke a bit of fun at it.

“I don’t think anybody thought Friends would become what it did,” she says. “It’s all good, though. It’s nothing but blessings,” she says. “But seriously, who actually dances in a fountain?”
