Matthew McConaughey says the birth of his son will help bring a little joy to others in the world someday. The actor kept the placenta from the July birth of his son and plans to plant it in an orchard, he tells CNN’s “House Call with Dr. Sanjay Gupta” in interview scheduled to air in two parts Aug. 9 and Aug 16.

McConaughey says he hopes it will fertilize the land, a ritual long followed in several cultures.

“It’s going to be in the orchards and it’s going to bear some wonderful fruit,” he says, according to an interview transcript. “When I was in Australia, they had a placenta tree that was on the river … and all the placentas of all that tribe, all that clan, whatever aboriginal tribe that was, all the placentas went under that one tree and it was this huge behemoth of just health and strength.

“This tree was just growing taller and stronger above the rest of Mother Nature around it. It was gorgeous.”

McConaughey also says he and his girlfriend Camila Alves have enjoyed integrating their new baby, Levi Alves McConaughey, into their lives. Already they’ve started introducing him to the “sights and the sounds” of the world — including a John Mellencamp concert.

“You’re never told in our house, ‘Shh, Levi is sleeping.’ No. Get used to the ambiance. Come with us. That’s how I was raised,” he says.

For Matthew McConaughey and his longtime love Camila Alves, welcoming their first son Levi Alves McConaughey on July 7 was typical of the way the couple handles everything in their lives: easy-going and as a team.

And now, in an exclusive interview and photoshoot, the 38-year-old actor opens up about becoming a father for the first time.

“We found a great rhythm,” Matthew tells OK! about the delivery of baby Levi. “Contractions started kicking in. I sat there with her, right between her legs. We got tribal on it, we danced to it! I was DJ-ing this Brazilian music.”

Levi was born at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and weighed a healthy 7 lbs., 4 oz., and Matthew tells OK! he kept a detailed diary of his and Camila’s hospital experience.

“I have it all chronicled,” he explained. “Becoming a dad is something I’ve dreamed of doing since I was 10. Becoming a father felt very, very natural. We were jamming! She was sweating. No painkiller, let’s go. She just clicked into that gear that only a woman has at a time like this. We’d been up for 40-something hours, and we went from dead tired to a really steadfast, ‘Let’s handle this… let’s stay in the rhythm. Don’t let the contraction be more than you.’”

Camila, 25, wanted a natural birth and chose not to have an epidural. But in the end, Matthew told OK! it came down to what was safest for both mom and baby.

“We ended up having an epidural because, on the large contractions, the umbilical cord was being compressed. They went in and tried the vacuum. This is where I learned — and no one tells you this — but having a baby is a bloody, pukey, sweaty, primeval thing! And I mean that as a beautiful thing. It is wild. But the vacuum didn’t work, and the doctor said, ‘C-section.’

The Texas-born actor says he cut the umbilical cord in “one snip” and got to hold his son for the first 15 minutes while doctors worked on Camila. Both he and the Brazilian beauty — who waited to know the sex of their baby — say they were not surprised to find out they had a boy.

“I said, ‘Come here, little man. I saw the pecker and screamed that we’d been right all along about him being a boy. Then I brought him over to her [Camila],’ Matthew said.

“It was neat to find out what the sex was because we didn’t have the doctor tell us beforehand,” Camila agrees.

So who does little Levi look more like? “Everybody thinks he looks like me because of the hair and skin tone,” Camila says. “I think he looks more like Matthew every day.”

Matthew adds, “I’ve pulled out some baby pictures of myself, and the resemblance is amazing. This kid has a lot to learn from us. I want him to come out being a little wiser, a little cooler and a little happier than we are.”

Brazilian model Alves gave birth to Levi Alves on July 7, 2008 and McConaughey was on hand to ease her through her labor pains.

He tells America’s OK! magazine, “Contractions started kicking in, and we found a great rhythm. We had a 14-hour session, her and I did. I sat there with her, right between her legs. We got tribal on it. We danced to it. I was DJing this native Brazilian music.

The new father is finishing up touches on “Surfer Dude” - the movie he produced with his company, jk livin’ (”just keep livin’ “) - and now he wants to start a record label. A source said, “He’s looking for a distribution deal with all the major labels for his own label. His first artist is a reggae guy called Mishka. The album will be called ‘Above the Bones’ and the first single is ‘Here Comes Da Train.’ He’s also doing the soundtrack for ‘Surfer Dude.’ ” McConaughey’s rep confirmed the story but said, “There is no single yet.”

Now that superstar actor Matthew McConaughey and longtime girlfriend Camila Alves have welcomed their first child into the world, they are revealing exclusively to OK! their son’s name — Levi Alves McConaughey.

Explaining how they came up with the name for their baby boy, Matthew tells OK!, “Levi was another name for the apostle Matthew in The Bible. They were, in fact, two names for the same person.

“Our son was born at 6:22 pm, and this particular time represents my favorite verse in the book of Matthew in The Bible: ‘If thy eye be single, thy whole body will be full of light.’”

Baby Levi’s middle name is taken directly from his mother Camila’s last name. “We wanted to incorporate her family name,” explains the proud new father.

Matthew McConaughey was caught in the middle of a turf war over the weekend when a group of surfers confronted paparazzi who were snapping photos of the actor hanging ten.

The surfer vs. paparazzi battle took place in Malibu near Paradise Cove, where McConaughey was catching a few waves.

“Let’s go. We’ll draw the line, we’ll fight for the beach!” a surfer is heard saying to photographers captured by X-17 photo agency. “If you guys win, you can have the beach.”

The LA Sheriff’s Department told Access Hollywood a report was filed from an alleged victim on Saturday.

The battle for the beach continued on Sunday, when the paparazzi returned hoping to snap more shots of McConaughey in the water, and two local beach-goers decided to get physical with a paparazzo.

Two surfers are seen on the video chasing down a photographer, throwing him to the ground and dragging him into the water.

Three reports were filed on Sunday as a result of the second incident.

The Sheriff’s Department told Access no arrests were made but they are conducting an ongoing investigation into the matter.

A rep for one of the photo agencies involved in the beach turf war told Access that a photographer at the beach had his car broken into on Saturday. His car windows were smashed and $25,000 worth of camera equipment was allegedly stolen. The photographer does not know who is responsible, but a police report was filed.

McConaughey was photographed with the surfers who scuffled with the photographers following the incident.

While pregnant girlfriend Camila Alves is away, Matthew McConaughey plays. Spies for Star magazine recently caught the “Fool’s Gold” star partying the night away at a bar in San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua, where he allegedly made fast friends with the female patrons. But Matthew says the publication only got part of the story right.

“(Matthew) was acting like an out-of-control 18-year-old,” said a Star source who spotted all the action at the Iguana Bar. “He already seemed to be drunk when he arrived alone, and he only got worse from there on.”

As the evening went on, Matthew was said to enjoy the company of several women, “throwing his arms around them and trying to kiss them, and trying to dirty-dance with a few out on the floor.” But his moves weren’t so smooth, as the witness added, “He was a mess, slurring his words and stumbling around.”

Apparently he stumbled so much, he lost track of his shoes somewhere along the way.

“A few minutes after he finally left the bar, someone found him searching through a sewage ditch outside,” the source said. “When they asked him what he was doing, he mumbled, ‘I’ve lost my flip-flops!’”

The New York Daily News, which also reported tales from the actor’s wild night, received an e-mail wherein Matthew denied he put the moves on any fellow bargoers but fessed up to the rest of his boozing behavior.

“Drunk? Absolutely,” Matthew wrote. “Nicaragua is a beautiful place, epic waves, the best surfing I have ever been on. And, yes, I’m STILL looking for my left flip-flop. So if anyone finds it floating around down there (it has 6:22 stitched into the side), please send it my way. There is a reward.”

What a dilemma for Matthew McConaughey.

The actor, who lives in L.A. but recently spent three months in Boston shooting Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, is finding his allegiances tested during the NBA Finals between the Lakers and the Celtics.

“Who am I cheering for?” McConaughey, 38, who’s expecting his first child with girlfriend Camila Alves, asked fans Saturday on his MySpace blog.

He may not have much longer to wonder. The Celtics lead the best-of-seven series 3-games-to-2, and could win it all when they host the Lakers on Tuesday.

“We’re going to probably travel, go on a few adventures together,” the dad-to-be, 38, said at the London premiere of Fool’s Gold on Thursday.

“Me, the child and my girlfriend Camila will hopefully stay on the road … go explore the world.

“One of the great things about my job is I go all over the world,” he added. “Some of the best people I’ve met are from when I travel.”

The actor is seen in the ad dressed head-to-toe in D&G and running through the streets of Paris trying to escape from the paparazzi.

According to US reports the couple were told the sex by a doctor during a pregnancy scan - despite saying they wanted it to remain a secret.

A source close to the couple said: “During the ultrasound the doctor referred to the baby as a ‘he’.

“Matthew was so upset with the doctor for giving it away.

“When the doctor realized what he’d done he felt bad and tried to say he calls all babies ‘he.’

“But then he confessed that wasn’t really the case after Matthew demanded to know the truth.”

Brazilian-born model Alves, 25, is due to give birth on July 4 - Independence Day in America.

Fool’s Gold star McConaughey, 38, recently bought a new $10 million home in Malibu, California for his growing family.

A spokesman for the actor was unavailable for comment.

Meanwhile, it has been claimed that McConaughey’s elderly mother, Kay, is pushing him to propose.

A source told a US magazine: “Kay’s in her seventies and doesn’t want to leave the planet knowing Matthew is alone, without his own family to love him and take care of him.

“Kay loves Camila and is so happy that Matthew is giving his hard-partying ways a break and finally thinking about a more solid future.”
