Britney and Mel’s Cigar Club Rendezvous

Source: www.celebritymound.com

Britney Spears and Mel Gibson had a smokin’ date Tuesday night – at an exclusive Beverly Hills cigar club.

For more than two-and-a-half hours, the singer, 26, and the actor-filmmaker, 52, met in what was confirmed to PEOPLE as a more of an ongoing guidance session than a business pow-wow.

For their rendezvous at the members-only Havana Club, both showed up separately shortly before 7 p.m., well into the third game of the NBA finals between the L.A. Lakers and the Boston Celtics, which was playing at the bar. As for the smoking and watering hole itself, habitués include Ben Affleck, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Danny DeVito.

When Spears arrived, her bodyguard drove a Jeep Commander into the underground parking garage, and she exited with her blonde hair up and pulled back by a white headband. Also with Spears were her assistant Brett and a bodyguard.

“She looked pretty in her new Capri jeans a blue blouse, white shoes and a brown bag,” says a photographer. Earlier in the day, Spears was seen shopping at the Lisa Kline boutique in Beverly Hills, where she purchased the new jeans and tried on several necklaces.

“Britney looked like a doll with bright red lipstick,” added the photog, who described her as “very quiet” and “with a serious look on her face as she walked in to the Havana Club.”

By contrast, an upbeat Gibson left his silver Lexus with the valet and walked in holding what was described as a “man-purse” up to his face and a look of “okay, you got me” as paparazzi snapped his picture.

Around 9:30, Spears left the club for home, while Gibson hung around until about 11.

The two – once neighbors inside a Malibu enclave (Spears now lives in a gated community in Studio City) – began being seen in public together in March, at dinner in a restaurant. It was then learned that Gibson and his wife, Robin, had been looking in on Spears once she had checked out the hospital in February.

In May, Gibson and his wife, and Spears and her father, all vacationed together in Costa Rica.

Has Hollywood forgiven Mel Gibson for his drunken anti-Semitic rant two years ago?

Source: www.celebritymound.com

One source said, “He’s a pariah in Hollywood,” adding that studios have refused to distribute Gibson’s next movie, “Edge of Darkness.” But independent producer Graham King told us, “The only reason I didn’t sell the movie [to a studio] is I had to get a SAG waiver. If I had a distribution deal with a studio, I never would have gotten the waiver.” The Screen Actors Guild is expected to go on strike June 30, and shooting for “Edge of Darkness” is slated to start Aug. 18. Asked if there was a boycott against Gibson, King, who won an Oscar for “The Departed,” said, “I don’t think so. We took the movie to Cannes. I sold the movie in Israel. It surprised the hell out of me.” William Morris agency chairman Jim Wiatt said, “It’s not true that the studios won’t work with Mel. He’s been offered movies by Fox and Warner Bros. and others.”

Mel Gibson Returns To The Big Screen

Source: www.celebritymound.com

MEL Gibson - in his first movie role in six years - will star in the thriller “Edge of Darkness” as a cop unraveling the murder of his activist daughter. Gibson, 52, who had been concentrating on directing (”The Passion of the Christ” and “Apocalypto”), hasn’t worked since his drunk-driving arrest on July 28, 2006, when he spewed anti-Semitic remarks at the arresting officer. The devout Catholic apologized for his hateful words and chalked it up to alcoholism. Despite that incident, Gibson’s rep, Alan Neirob, insisted yesterday, “There has never been any shortage of film offers for Mel. It’s always been and continues to be Mel’s choice when and if he wants to work.” Martin Campbell, who directed “Casino Royale,” will helm the adaptation of the popular BBC miniseries. William Monahan, of “The Departed” fame, penned the script. “Darkness” will be bankrolled by Graham King and starts filming in August in Boston.

Gibson Wants No ‘Passion’ Disclosure

Source: www.celebritymound.com

Mel Gibson, who’s being sued by a writer over payment for the “The Passion of the Christ” screenplay, wants to keep financial information about the blockbuster movie out of the public eye.

Benedict Fitzgerald claimed in his February lawsuit that Gibson misled him into accepting a small payment for writing the script by saying the movie would cost between $4 million and $7 million.

Fitzgerald, who shared screenwriting credits with Gibson, claimed he agreed to “a salary substantially less than what he would have taken had he known the true budget for the film,” which the lawsuit claimed was $25 million to $50 million. The lawsuit claims fraud, breach of contract and unjust enrichment, and seeks unspecified damages.

In court filings Tuesday, attorneys for Gibson and his production company asked the court to seal the movie’s financial records and only allow Fitzgerald’s lawyers access to them. The information details the movie’s domestic and foreign box office receipts, production costs and distribution expenses.

The defense is also seeking to dismiss some of Fitzgerald’s claims, including fraud, which if proven would allow Fitzgerald to seek punitive damages.

Britney Spears to perform a gig at Mel Gibson’s church

Source: www.showbizspy.com

Britney Spears and Mel GibsonBritney Spears is set to perform a gospel gig at Mel Gibson’s catholic church in California.

The ‘Braveheart’ star, 52, wants troubled Britney to see the light and “rediscover God”.

Britney, 26, has agreed with Mel on an “appropriate” set of songs. Insiders say she is rehearsing a gospel-style number that she will perform with backing singers at the gig next month.

A source said: “They are working on arrangements and will agree on something in time for Britney singing at a Sunday service in late April.

“There is the possibility that she may even have a new song written for her for the occasion.”

Mel has known Britney since they became neighbors in Malibu. He has met her on three separate occasions during the last month and has been helping to nurture her spiritual side.

The source adds to Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: “He is acting as a kind of mentor to help her rediscover God.

“He is thrilled that she has agreed to come to his church.”

But if the Toxic singer is planning to turn up to Mel’s ultra-conservative church in one of her flesh revealing outfits — she can think again: Female followers must wear veils over their hair and long skirts.

Adds the source: “Visitors have to be really respectful and cover up. So Britney can’t turn up in her usual leather trousers or short skirts — she’d be turned away.

“Even if she is performing she will need to abide by the rules.”

Mel’s church, which holds a daily mass in Latin, follows an ancient ideology of Catholicism. But it is not recognized by the Roman Catholic Church because it does not acknowledge the authority of the Pope or the Vatican.

The parish — which is still unfinished after three years of construction and sits on the actor’s $4m estate in Malibu — has a chapel which seats 100.

Mel Gibson’s new home hit by suicide tragedy

Source: www.showbizspy.com

Mel GibsonMel Gibson’s new California home has been hit by a suicide tragedy.

Police have confirmed that a carpenter working on the site of Gibson’s new property in Agoura Hills, apparently hung himself from the house’s rafters.

The body of the 47-year-old workman was found at the site at 8am on Wednesday.

“There were three additional co-workers there, one of them notified the police,” Detective Eddie Brown of the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department said. “Nobody lives on the property, it’s only wood framework.”

Police say that no note was found, but that it is being treated as suicide.

Brown says that the man was found hanging just 2ft off the ground.

Gibson was not at the site and has never lived on the compound, which is just one mile from his Holy Family Catholic Church.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ a construction worker committed suicide at one of Mel Gibson’s homes today.

It happened at Mel’s Agoura Hills home — near Malibu. The construction worker was 48-years-old. We’re told he hanged himself. The body was found by the job site foreman.

The Sheriff’s substation in Lost Hills took the call at 8:07 AM — that’s the same station where Mel was taken after his DUI arrest in 2006.

Mel was not at the house when the body was discovered. A law enforcement source says no one from Gibson’s family was living at the house — it is currently under heavy construction.

The house is less than a mile from his church — The Holy Family Catholic Church — where Mel’s daughter was married back in September, 2006.

Mel has never lived on the compound.

UPDATE: Law enforcement sources say the body was found hanging in the addition to the home that was being built and was in “full-body rigor mortis” and the hanging could have occurred last night.

Source: Mel & Britney Have Been ‘Meeting Regularly’

Source: www.celebritymound.com

Mel Gibson and Britney Spears’s dinner over the weekend wasn’t their first meeting.

The pair and their families have met a number of times since Spears checked out from her second hospitalization last month, a source tells PEOPLE.

“Mel and his wife Robin clearly saw a woman in crisis and wanted to extend themselves in any way possible,” the source says.

“There’s just a handful of people in the world who understand the kind of intense attention that Britney goes through, and how to raise a family with some semblance of privacy and how to keep one’s family intact and out of the limelight,” the source adds.

“There are no expectations, there is no agenda. It’s simply an act of human kindness – one neighbor reaching out to the other.”

Gibson and Spears used to be neighbors when the singer previously lived in Malibu.

Britney Spears and Mel GibsonTroubled Britney Spears enjoyed a spot of dinner with Mel Gibson Saturday.

The Toxic star and the Braveheart actor reportedly spent two hours chatting and dining at the Romanov Russian Restaurant & Lounge in Studio City, California.

Britney’s dad, Jamie Spears is a client of the lawyer who helped the actor avoid a legal wrap for his DUI arrest in 2006. And Gibson, 52, and Spears, 26, used to be neighbors in Malibu, California.

The basis of their meeting remains unknown, but one insider suggests, “It’s unlikely that they were talking about working together on anything specific.

“Although Mel has used a lot of inexperienced actors in his last two films.”

The famous pair dined in the restaurant’s private dining room, which features a 24-karat gold leaf ceiling, an ornate fireplace and a library stocked with such works as Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace.

“It was exciting to have both of them here together,” says one restaurant source. “We heard they hit it off and that Britney seemed excited.”

The insider says that it’s highly likely Mel was sharing some of his insight into how to handle the negative press. “He understands what she’s going through,” explains the insider. “And he certainly has advice on how to not let it destroy your life.”

In 2006, the actor - who, like Britney, has received his own fair share of negative publicity following his embarrassing arrest over two years ago - spoke out in support for the troubled star, saying, “I feel compassion for someone like Britney.

“She never gets a moment… Your heart goes out to her because I’m positive that, at her core, she’s a good woman.”

Mel Gibson given the thumbs up to put his DUI shame behind him

Source: www.showbizspy.com

Mel GibsonRelieved Mel Gibson was today given the thumbs up by a judge to finally put his DUI shame behind him.

The Lethal Weapon star - caught drink-driving in July 2006 - was praised for meeting all the demands of his probation and told he will not have to come back to court.

Judge Lawrence J. Mira saluted Gibson for sticking to the rules of his rehabilitation at the half-way stage and wished him good luck for the future. But the judge warned: “Now you’re on you’re your own.

“This will be the most difficult time for you.”

Gibson, smartly dressed in a suit, only spoke when the judge told him: “I believe you are committed to this rehabilitation.”
He replied: “Yes.”

The actor, who infamously made ant-Semitic comments when he was arrested, stood alongside his attorney with his hands behind his back throughout the probation progress hearing in Malibu. He looked visibly relieved as he realised his DUI nightmare in the courts was finally over.

Judge Mira, who had insisted Gibson appear in person, told him: “I am pleased with the efforts you have put in on this round of probation.
“This hasn’t been easy for you.”

But the judge stressed Gibson is still only half-way through his probation. He said: “This probation has to run 36 months. There is no early termination.”

The court heard how Gibson has attended Alcoholics Anonymous and court-ordered DUI meetings. Judge Mira said: “I don’t see in this particular case any need for future progress reports.”

He told Gibson he can continue to count on the support of the court and added: “Good luck to you.”

The judge refused to let the hearing be recorded by reporters as he agreed it could encourage crazed fans who Gibson has been forced to take out a restraining order against.

Oscar-winner Gibson pleaded no contest to the DUI charge in August 2006 and was given three years’ probation. He was also ordered to pay $1,400 in fines and attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, which he now does voluntarily.

Gibson was driving his Lexus in Malibu when he was arrested in the early hours of the morning in July 2006. He issued a statement a day later apologizing for his “belligerent behaviour” when he was arrested. And he admtitted he had “battled the disease of alcoholism for all my adult life”.

Mel Gibson sued by Passion of the Christ screenwriter

Source: www.showbizspy.com

Mel GibsonMel Gibson “callously and greedily” exploited the co-screenwriter on ‘The Passion of the Christ’, a new lawsuit claims.

The Braveheart star allegedly told Benedict Fitzgerald he would not take any profits from the movie - and then raked in $5 million plus a percentage of revenue.

Gibson had “the express purpose of depriving Ben of the full fruits of his efforts as the screenwriter of ‘The Passion’,” court papers state. “He [Ben] became, unbeknown to him, ensnarled by a conspiracy of ongoing fraud, including its integral cover-up, perpetrated by Gibson and his associates.”

Fitzgerald claims he was defrauded into accepting minimal payment for writing hit movie ‘The Passion of the Christ’.

In a 21-page lawsuit, filed at Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, he accuses Gibson of fraud, breach of contract and unfair business practices. “From the very beginning of their relationship in 2001, and continuously, incessantly and defiantly through the present time, Gibson, his owned and associated entities, and his representatives and associates have engaged in a chronic and conspiratorial pattern of deceit,” the lawsuit claims.

Fitzgerald alleges Gibson initially told him ‘The Passion’ was a small four to seven million-dollar film and that he was not taking any money for the project.

The actor apparently said he was motivated by his desire to give back to his faith and that whatever money might be made would be distributed among the other people who worked on the picture.

Fitzgerald claims he agreed to a “relatively small salary” to write ‘The Passion’ - but says Gibson took $5 million just to direct and then made a percentage of revenues.

Although by some accounts the film grossed over $600 million worldwide, Fitzgerald complains he was paid $75,000 and that he had to borrow $200,000 from Gibson for expenses.

The lawsuit states the actor “preyed monetarily” on Fitzgerald and “callously and greedily” exploited him. “He [Gibson] shamelessly minted and cobbled gobbles of money from The Passion,” the documents read.

The writer is seeking unspecified damages in his case against Gibson, Icon Productions, Icon’s chief operating officer Vicki Christianson, Marquis Films and Airborne Productions.

A rep for Gibson declined to comment.

Policy Violations Found in Gibson Arrest

Source: www.celebritymound.com

A sheriff’s supervisor considered withholding details about Mel Gibson’s anti-Semitic rant from an arrest report but was eventually overrruled by a captain, a department watchdog said Thursday.

Gibson was arrested July 28, 2006, for misdemeanor drunken driving on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. The actor-director’s remarks, detailed in a report leaked to celebrity Web site TMZ.com, provoked outrage and he later apologized.

The report also says three Los Angeles County sheriff’s employees violated policy in Gibson’s arrest.

Sheriff’s personnel neglected to take Gibson’s palm print upon his release, follow proper procedures before driving him to a tow yard to retrieve his car and sign a certain department form, the report said.

The employees - two sergeants and a jailer - have since been disciplined for the minor procedural violations, sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said. One received a one-day suspension; the other two received a written reprimand.

Gibson’s spokesman, Alan Nierob, declined to comment on the report, issued by the Office of Independent Review.

After pleading no contest to the charge on Aug. 17, 2006, Gibson was given three years’ probation, ordered to pay $1,400 in fines and attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

The report also concluded that no violations have been found in Paris Hilton’s jailing earlier this year for driving on a suspended license while on probation for an alcohol-related reckless-driving case.

“The Office of Independent Review is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do, which is monitoring the Sheriff’s Department,” Whitmore said. “That makes transparency more than a buzzword, it makes it a reality.”

Jewish Leader Says Mel Gibson Refused To Meet With Him

Source: www.celebritymound.com

Mel Gibson has been accused of reneging on his promise to meet Jewish leaders as part of his “path to healing” after making anti-Semitic remarks during an arrest for drunk driving. The president of the Zionist Organization Of America Morton Klein attempted to meet the star after he said he would love to meet Jewish leaders to talk about the July incident.

However Klein was told the tough guy actor had changed his mind. He says, “I called his publicist, told him I would be in Los Angeles for 10 days and would be willing to meet with Gibson privately, off the record. The publicist called back and said Gibson doesn’t want to meet Jewish people after all. We’ve told our people not to support any of his projects.”

Joan Rivers: “Mel Gibson Should F—king Die!”

Source: www.celebritymound.com

Mel Gibson probably shouldn’t expect a Hanukkah card this year from red carpet diva Joan Rivers. “He is an anti-Semitic son of a bitch,” she tells Celebrity Week. “He should f–king die.”

Rivers, 73, was promoting her upcoming Bravo comedy special Joan Rivers: Before Melissa Pulls The Plug (premieres October 24), when the conversation turned to the disgraced actor’s recent arrest.

“I think he’s in vino veritas,” the comic said. “I think everyone should not watch (the interview with Diane Sawyer). The hypocrisy is what I hate. You know it’s all about ratings and Diane Sawyer has them all when she’s married to a Jewish guy Mike Nichols. It’s ridiculous because she’ll get great ratings and (Gibson) will be back in business.”

Mel Gibson

Not surprisingly, Rivers revealed that Gibson has now earned a place in her stand up act: “His bumper sticker is ‘My other car is a gas chamber.’ The other is ‘I heart Hitler,’” she joked before again turning serious.

“I believed it when he said six and a half million Jews spent World War two in Boca and didn’t die. He is what he is. How refreshing that we all now know.”

Gibson Feared Nolte-style Mugshot

Source: www.celebritymound.com

Mel Gibson slicked his hair back before having his mug shot taken because he desperately wanted to avoid a shot like actor Nick Nolte’s famously disheveled 2002 photo, taken after his own drink driving arrest in Malibu, California.

Gibson has given his first public interview since the night of his “insane” tequila-fuelled ordeal, which ended with him being arrested and making anti-Semitic remarks to police in July.

He tells US newswoman Diane Sawyer on breakfast show Good Morning America, “The first thing that went through my mind was Nick Nolte’s photograph.

“So I did my best with a finger combing in the water fountain, to sort of like splash a little water on my face, to not take one of those hideous mug shots.

“Because I knew it would be around. So, vanity won out!” The star admits he has always had to battle to suppress an inexplicable inner rage, saying, “I’ve been angry all my life… and I try not to have it manifest itself.

“I can get really mad… I can murder inanimate objects. You should see me choking the toaster in the morning.”

Reiner wants Gibson to come clean on ‘Passion’
Actor-producer asks director to admit his masterwork is anti-Semitic

Mel Gibson’s apology for making drunken anti-Semitic remarks isn’t enough to redeem him, actor-producer Rob Reiner said.

The actor also must acknowledge that “his work reflects anti-Semitism,” particularly the 2004 hit movie “The Passion of the Christ,” Reiner told Associated Press Radio.

“When he comes to the understanding that he has done that, and can come out and say, you know, ‘My views have been reflected in my work and I feel bad that I’ve done that,’ then that will be the beginning of some reconciliation for him,” Reiner said.

Some critics attacked Gibson’s movie as portraying Jews as evil. Supporters said the movie was merely being faithful to Gospel accounts of Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion.

A call to Gibson’s publicist seeking comment was not immediately returned Friday.

Gibson publicly apologized for an anti-Semitic tirade he unleashed when he was arrested for drunken driving in Malibu on July 28. He has called the remarks “despicable.”

Earlier this month, Gibson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge in a deal that calls for alcohol rehabilitation, fines and probation.

Reiner, however, said Gibson also must do some “major soul-searching.”

“It’s not a matter of just apologizing for some words you’ve said,” said Reiner, who is Jewish. “It’s to really understand why it is you’re anti-Semitic and where those feelings came from.”

“I believe that people can be redeemed and people can change, but that’s going to be a very long process,” he added.
