After years of playing coy, Miley Cyrus finally speaks out about her ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas.

“We became boyfriend and girlfriend the day we met,” Cyrus says in the September issue of Seventeen Magazine. “He was on a quest to meet me, and he was like, ‘I think you’re beautiful and I really like you.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, I like you so much.’”

The teen stars, now both 15, never went public with their relationship – Cyrus said they were “just really good buds” – though fans and reporters alike were onto them.

“Nick and I loved each other,” Cyrus says now. “We still do, but we were in love with each other. For two years he was basically my 24/7. But it was really hard to keep it from people. We were arguing a lot, and it really wasn’t fun.”

After they broke up at the end of 2007, Cyrus tells Seventeen, “At first I bawled for a month straight. I was so sad. I just went into this weird funk. And I dyed my hair black. When we were dating, Nick wanted me to get highlights – and so I did that, and I got myself looking great. And then, on the day we broke up, I was like, I want to make my hair black now – I don’t want to look pretty; I want to look hard-core. I was rebelling against everything Nick wanted me to be. And then I was like, I’ve got to be by myself for now, and just figure out who I really am.”

Cyrus doesn’t rule out getting back together with the Jonas brother one day – though a source told PEOPLE he’s now dating fellow Disney Channel star Selena Gomez, 16.

“Maybe he’ll be my best friend for the rest of my life or maybe I’ll end up marrying Nick Jonas!” Cyrus says.

But for now, she’s happily single. “Since [the breakup], I’ve realized that I’ve met so many great guys, but I like being the girl nobody can have,” she says. “No one can touch me, no one’s mine. I’m myself. I think it’s sexy to do your own thing.”

At a Friday taping of F’N MTV, Miley Cyrus couldn’t keep her cool when she came face to face with Ashlee Simpson.

“I just met your beautiful wife backstage,” the 15-year-old Disney star — who performed “7 Things” and “Fly on a Wall” — gushed to show creator Pete Wentz.

“I worship her,” Cyrus went on. “I’ll baby sit!”

A few days later, Cyrus hosted the Teen Choice Awards, where she picked up three awards for choice female musical artist, choice actress and TV show for Hannah Montana.

Hannah Montana may be the biggest thing on television, but in real life, her portrayer, Miley Cyrus, is a typical teenager who gets grounded when she fights with her brother, sometimes forgets the lyrics to her own songs, and enjoys window-shopping for boys. The difference is, Cyrus has to do it all in the glare of a media spotlight.

Those are some of the glimpses into Miley Cyrus’ private life that the teen singer/actress revealed Thursday to TODAY’s kid correspondent, Bailey Monte. The two got together in advance of Cyrus’ Friday concert on Rockefeller Plaza as part of TODAY’s summer concert series.

“When she isn’t making music and movies, she’s really pretty normal,” 13-year-old Bailey reported. “She kind of reminds me of me.”

But the pressures Cyrus faces are far from normal, and she admitted they can be a challenge at times. “It’s kinda hard when I’m out with my friends and stuff; my friends are, you know, wantin’ to just hang out,” she told Bailey. “But it’s also a lot of fun to be able to have fans that come up and ask for your autograph and stuff like that.”

“Do you have a boyfriend right now?” Bailey asked.

“No,” Cyrus said, but then added with a laugh: “Lookin’.”

The trouble is, looking isn’t easy with the media eagerly parsing every move she makes; for example, recent reports have linked her romantically with Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers, another tween music sensation, and Lucas Till, her co-star in the upcoming “Hannah Montana: The Movie.”

“It is hard when you are hanging out with guys, even guys that are just your friends,” Cyrus said. “It’s automatically your boyfriend, because that’s what the media thinks. I think it’s good if you can be able to have guy and girl friends that, you know, understand you … and it stinks when we go out; people automatically think we’re together.”

Sibling rivalry
A seasoned performer with experience that belies her tender years, Cyrus — the daughter of country singing star Billy Ray Cyrus, who burned up the charts in the ’90s with “Achy Breaky Heart” — readily admitted that at home, Mom and Dad rule.

“Does Miley Cyrus get grounded?” Bailey asked her.

“Yes, yes, Miley Cyrus does. And I kinda like it sometimes,” Cyrus replied. “I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s kinda nice just to be home,’ you know. And it’ll kinda stop me for a little while from wanting to work and wanting to do this and that.”

But there is a punishment Cyrus really hates: losing her line of communication. “The worst is cell phones getting taken away,” she said. “It’s the worst.”

“What have you gotten grounded for?” Bailey asked.

“Well, me and my brother are about the same age. He’s one year younger — I’m 15. He’s 14. So me and him kinda butt heads sometimes,” Cyrus said. “And so when we fight, [my mom’s] just like, ‘OK, you guys are both grounded,’ and then we’re grounded.”

Bailey noted that Cyrus probably fights with her parents, as all teens do, but her father is also her co-worker, who works with her on her hit television show, “Hannah Montana.” “How does that translate on-set?” Bailey asked.

“Me and my dad do have a relationship where we really do try to kinda see eye to eye,” Cyrus replied. “But then again, he is my dad. So you just gotta remember the professional part of it. We don’t like to take anything that’s happening at home to set. And nothing at set comes home.”

Cyrus’ father may be a country legend, but she told Bailey that her heart belongs to rock ’n’ roll. “Killers and Coldplay are my favorites,” she said. “But while I’m recording and singing, I like to kinda listen to no other music but what I’m writing … so I can really not duplicate anything else that’s been done, make it very much my own.”

Waiting for wheels
The star is looking eagerly ahead to her 16th birthday on Nov. 23, when she’ll be able to get a driver’s license — and a car.

“Do you know what kind of car?” Bailey asked.

“I’ll take anything that’ll drive,” Cyrus said with apparent sincerity. “Seriously, right now I just want anything that’ll get me around and hopefully it’s something somewhat OK.”

Bailey offered her own opinion on that at the end of the interview. “Something tells me she’s going to get a car that does more than just work,” she told TODAY’s hosts dryly.

Cyrus has been playing Miley Stewart and her alter ego, Hannah Montana, on the Disney Channel since March 2006, when she was Bailey’s present age, 13. She sold out a national concert series and is working on “Hannah Montana: The Movie.”

But the family-friendly teen queen became embroiled in controversy in April when she and her dad posed for a Vanity Fair photo spread shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. One shot of Cyrus showing her back bare with a sheet held against her chest was criticized as too racy for a 15-year-old. On TODAY, Billy Ray Cyrus said the picture was a mistake and that it was taken after he had left the studio to go perform a concert for the U.S. military.

Miley Cyrus released her own statement in which she apologized for the picture: “I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed. I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about.”

But when Bailey asked what Cyrus’ most embarrassing moment was, the Vanity Fair imbroglio was not what the teen superstar chose.

“It really is embarrassing when you forget the words to your own song,” Cyrus admitted. “Like the other day, I forgot the words to ‘See You Again,’ and that song plays 24/7. How I forgot the words, I don’t know.”

Some industry insiders are beginning to wonder whether Miley Cyrus’ Vanity Fair shoot might have been a well-orchestrated blessing in disguise for the “Hannah Montana” star and her career.

“I challenge you to show me a child star who really made the transition to adulthood smoothly,” says one source. “Miley doesn’t have plans to leave showbiz any time soon, and to get that big ‘grown-up’ part, she needs to start looking like a grownup. That shoot helped.”

So what’s up next? Cyrus is rumored to be interested in the lead role in “Undiscovered Gyrl,” the film version of Allison Burnett’s new novel. It’s still early for casting — Burnett’s agent Richard Abate has reportedly just begun shopping the manuscript to publishers and has yet to secure a deal for the film.

However, a source close to the project says Cyrus is interested in the part, which would be that of “a lovable, lost suburban girl who descends into a life of reckless partying and promiscuity.” The source says if Cyrus did take the part, you’d be seeing a lot more of Cyrus than what appeared in the Vanity Fair photos. “There would definitely be nude scenes,” says the source.

Cyrus’ camp had no comment.

Brittny Gastineau was showing a bit more than most on he red carpet last night at the ESPY Awards.  Brittny made a name for herself a few year ago in her own reality show and hasn’t done much since, but after looking at these pictures she needs to get back to work to share her talents with the world.  Now yesterday we saw some wonderful side boob from Aubrey O’Day so I am going to call this look middle boob or center cleavage or inside boob- your choice really.  Not only was she busting ou on the carpet she did her best Miley Cyrus later on by throwing the peace sign to he photogs.

Miley Cyrus is back at work for Disney making a new Hannah Montana movie , Paradise Cove, in Malibu, CA.  Today Miley got to have some fun sporting a blonde wig and being carried around on a surf board by a bunch of guys that would get thrown in jail for even looking at her…nice how Disney respects the age barrier.   Expect the movie to end up on screen sometime in 2009.

I don’t think people will look at me any differently because they’re like,’You know what, I’m going to do stupid stuff too, and I’m going to make mistakes, and that’s fine.’ It still hurts when I think about it.”

On the new album
“It’s grown-up. I wrote all the songs except two. My last one, ‘Meet Miley Cyrus,’ was more just meeting me, finding out who I am, and here it’s more getting in depth of what’s been going on in my life in the past year.”

On her passion for songwriting
I wrote my first song when I was probably 7–it was called “Pink.” That shows what kind of song it was about—it’s about the color pink. But you know what, darn it, I wrote it and I’ve been writing since I was my little sister’s age.

In regards to fans being shut out of her last tour
In terms of the kids who couldn’t get in, I don’t know if I could do more–we did 76 shows last year and I don’t know that I could do more than that.

Maybe I could do that and take a little break and go back into it? Also, the 3-D movie was awesome for the people that didn’t get to come see the show.

On Hannah Montana
It will wrap up, eventually. I mean, I won’t be Hannah Montana by the time I’m 30. But we’ve only done two seasons, so we definitely want to work on that hopefully for another two years.

On acting in an “edgy, indie flick” not related to Disney or Hannah Montana

I’ve been talking to people about some cool movies, but right now I mostly want to stay within my company and keep them happy and keep everything that we’re doing successful and focus on that. I like to do everything that I do 120% and unless I can focus hardcore on that, I don’t want to do it yet.

On trying to be a role model
It’s something that I’ve been super blessed with, that I’ve had the opportunity and the ability to spread the light. That doesn’t mean that I’m not going to make mistakes and do things that everyone’s going to be happy with, because there¹s no such thing as perfection.

I just like to be the role model that doesn’t say you have to be perfect all the time.

On your show recently being highlighted as being great for young women in that it showcases a wide range of body types.
I stress about that stuff like everyone else, but at the end of day, I’m a good ol’ Southern girl that likes her Cracker Barrel at 9 o’clock at night and if I want it, gosh darn, I’m going to eat it. I’m not going to make myself miserable. And for so many girls, you don’t want to be thin because you want the guy to think you’re gorgeous or whatever–you do it all for women, you do it all for a competition. That’s so silly, it’s such a game.

[Why] waste your time with a game you’re never going to win?

Miley Cyrus’ new album, Breakout, will hit stores in a few weeks and a new photo shoot for the album has just been released.  Miley is looking very wholesome and Disney like in the pictures that should pave the way for another hugely successful album that will cement Miley’s place in the tween stardom for a few more years.

Selena Gomez wants everyone to know she’s not feuding with Miley Cyrus.

For about the past six weeks, Gomez has been dubbed “the next Miley Cyrus,” with Disney execs hoping to fast-track Gomez into even bigger stardom because they were getting nervous about some of the controversies surrounding the Hannah Montana star.

The 15-year-old Gomez stars in the Disney Channel hit Wizards of Waverly Place.

“It’s a little overwhelming, but I think really, it’s a compliment,” Gomez told me of the Cyrus comparisons. “She’s obviously extremely successful, and I think she’s a wonderful performer…So being compared to her, I was very, very flattered.”

I caught up with Gomez on Saturday over some Crumbs cupcakes at a press day promoting her upcoming fall movie, Another Cinderella Story.
Gomez and Cyrus have even had a good laugh about their so-called feuding. “We’re literally like, It’s fine. It’s all good,” Gomez recalled. “She’s Miley and I’m Selena.”

No doubt the comparisons will fire up again when Gomez’s first album debuts. However, if it’s up to Gomez, you won’t find her doing it alone. “I’m not going to be a solo artist,” the Texas native insisted. “I want to be in a band with four other guys.”

Gomez is keeping mum on a release date because her record deal isn’t official yet. “Soon, soon, soon,” she said with a laugh. “I can say that for sure.”

Gomez’s rise in Hollywood isn’t the only thing she’s celebrating these days. She’s got a party planned for her Sweet 16 in July.

“I’d like to have a huge, fun and crazy cake,” Gomez said. “I kind of want a Mad Hatter style cake like Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz’s [wedding] cake. I want to have karaoke, and I’m going to have a photo booth. It’s going to be really just strictly family and friends.”

Teen Sensation Miley Cyrus has told her ‘Hannah Montana’ co-star Anna Maria Perez de Tagle she is ‘hurting’ and wants to quit the hit Disney show after she received global criticism over her racy photo shoot for Vanity Fair magazine at the age of 15.

Anna Maria, who plays Ashley Dewitt on the popular kid’s show says, “Sometimes I’ll talk to her on the phone and she’ll be like, ‘It’s really hard’ or ‘I’m really tired. I can’t do this.’

“It really hurt her inside,” says Perez de Tagle. “She didn’t know that people would look at it like that.”

Miley has since apologized for the risqué photos; and Annie Leibovitz — the photographer behind the pictures — said she was sorry for any misinterpretation.

Miley Cyrus isn’t letting her semi-topless Vanity Fair photo scandal slow her down!

In between concerts and filming Hannah Montana, she may also be gearing up to record a duet with John Travolta.

“Johnny may sing [a duet] with Miley,” Travolta’s wife Kelly Preston told E! at the Step Up Women’s Network 2008 Inspiration Awards in Beverly Hills on Friday.

Cyrus and Travolta are both voicing characters in the animated film Bolt.

Also soon-to-be-in the spotlight? Preston and Travolta’s 8-year-old daughter, Ella. She’ll appear with her parents and Robin Williams in a Disney flick called Old Dogs.

“She’d been wanting to do something now for the last few years and would say, ‘Dad can I be in your movie?’ ‘Mom, can I be in your movie?’” Preston told Usmagazine.com. “This script came along and she took great direction from the director and she has her own little character going that she created herself and she plays someone very similar to herself.”

But don’t expect to see Ella in too many movies, even though Preston says she “absolutely” supports her daughter following in her acting footsteps, “if that’s what she chooses.

“I said, ‘Do you want to do another movie?’” Preston told Us. “She said, ‘I want to take a break for at least a year mom.’”

Preston also claims she’s “not at all” a stage mom.

“I would go to work with her as an actor but mom on the set,” Preston said. “There were scenes that she had by herself and I would be the mom with her on the set.”
