Actor Ryan O’Neal and his son Redmond have both been charged with felony possession of methamphetamines TMZ reported on Wednesday.

Both men are scheduled to be arraigned on November 13 according to TMZ.

Ryan, 67, and Redmond, 24, were arrested on suspicion of meth possession at the star’s home in Malibu in September.

Authorities found Redmond in possession of the drug while a vial was discovered in Ryan’s bedroom, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore told the Los Angeles Times.

The police search was related to Redmond’s probation. He was arrested last year in Malibu on charges related to possession of heroin and meth while driving under the influence.

Ryan, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his starring role in 1970’s Love Story, was also arrested last year on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm during an argument with another son, Griffin. The actor claimed he only fired a warning shot.

Redmond’s mother is actress Farrah Fawcett.

Lawyers Point Fingers in O’Neal Fight

Source: www.celebritymound.com

A battle between Ryan O’Neal and his son Griffin that led to the actor’s arrest at his Malibu home last weekend turned into a war of words in law offices Wednesday as their attorneys each charged that the other side was responsible for the fight in which a fireplace poker was swung and a gun fired.

Griffin O’Neal, 42, and his pregnant girlfriend, Joanna Berry, who had bandages around a bruised and swollen left eye, appeared but did not speak at a press conference by attorney Gloria Allred.

“We vigorously reject any assertion that the injuries suffered by Joanna and Griffin were as a result of Ryan O’Neal’s acting in self defense,” Allred said in a prepared statement.

The actor’s attorney, Mark Werksman, countered quickly.

“Ryan O’Neal is the victim and was attacked by his own son, with his own poker,” said Werksman, who noted his client had a cut on his hand and bruises on his arms and legs as a result of the dispute.

Werksman said O’Neal’s other son, Redmond, was in the house at the time and the fight occurred over how Griffin has treated Redmond. Werksman said Redmond is currently in drug treatment.

Werksman called the incident “another chapter in his (Griffin’s) chaotic and turbulent life.”

Berry, who is expecting a baby boy at the end of March, suffered facial lacerations that took eight stitches to close, as well as head trauma and a corneal abrasion during the confrontation, Allred said.

Ryan O’Neal, who was arrested for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm, has said he fired a “warning shot” to scare his son away after he came at him with the poker. He said his son struck Berry, 25, with the poker when he ducked during the fight.

Sheriff’s officials said they hope to present the O’Neal case to the district attorney’s office by Friday. County prosecutors will review the findings to decide whether charges should be filed.

Allred said her clients would not speak to reporters because they may be called to testify if a criminal case is filed.

Asked if Griffin O’Neal was under the influence of drugs the night of the fight, Allred said he was not.

Werksman said he and his client believe Griffin O’Neal was drunk at the time and became violent when his father asked him to leave. The attorney added that his client was sober at the time of the incident.

Allred declined to answer questions about whether a civil lawsuit will be filed, but Werksman said Ryan O’Neal financially supports his son.

Woman Called 911 Before O’Neal Arrest

A frantic pregnant woman told a 911 operator she had been hit and was in pain shortly before actor Ryan O’Neal was arrested for alleged assault and firing a weapon in an altercation with his son.

In recordings released Monday by the Sheriff’s Department, JoAnne Berry, who authorities described as a friend of O’Neal’s son, Griffin O’Neal, pleaded for an ambulance.

“I got hit by something. I can’t see. Help me! Help me!” Berry said, as an unidentified man in the background asked her where her keys and bag were.

“I’m in a lot of pain. … I need an ambulance,” Berry said.

In a call from the Malibu sheriff’s station to California Highway Patrol, a dispatcher said Berry reported being hit in the eye.

Berry did not say in her call who hit her or the object used.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested O’Neal early Saturday at his Malibu home for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm. He was booked and released on a $50,000 bond.

The district attorney’s office, which would determine whether to file charges, had not received the case by late Monday, said spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons.

Accounts of who started the altercation differed sharply, with O’Neal saying he was defending himself against an enraged son and the actor’s daughter claiming her father was lying.

The incident happened after O’Neal arrived home after dining out with a group of friends, including his former girlfriend Farrah Fawcett, according to O’Neal’s manager and a friend who attended the dinner. The group had been celebrating Fawcett’s 60th birthday and that she was cancer-free after four months of treatment.

In a statement, the 65-year-old actor said Griffin was at the house and began “wildly swinging a fireplace poker.”

His son grazed him four or five times and “aimed at my head, I ducked, he hit his own girlfriend in the head,” O’Neal said in an interview published Monday in the Los Angeles Times.

“I got a little nervous at that point and fled to my room … and I got my gun,” he said.

O’Neal said his son began to come up the stairs with the poker. “So I just fired it (the gun) into the banister, and that scared him and he fled,” he told the newspaper.

The pregnant Berry was slightly injured in the incident and treated at a hospital and released, said O’Neal manager Neil Hassman.

Charlie Mattera, a close friend of O’Neal who had been at the dinner and arrived at the house shortly after the incident, said O’Neal told him that when he got home Griffin was beating up his younger brother, Redmond.

“Griffin attacked his brother, Redmond, smashing an ashtray over his head,” Mattera told The Associated Press. “Ryan walked into this and told Griffin to get out of the house. He couldn’t do anything but protect himself and Redmond.”

But O’Neal’s daughter, Tatum, who was not present during the incident, said it was Griffin who was trying to protect Redmond.

“No matter what my dad is saying in the press, Griffin was not trying to start a fight with him,” she told the program “Entertainment Tonight” Monday. “He was attempting to protect Redmond.”

Hassman said Tatum had only gotten Griffin’s account, since she and her father had not spoken for years.

“I would be hesitant to buy into anything Tatum says about her father, or her brothers for that matter,” said Hassman.

Griffin, 42, Redmond, 22, and Berry, 22, could not be reached for comment. There was no listing for their phone numbers. Ryan O’Neal declined to be interviewed, Hassman said.

Hassman said O’Neal returned to the set of the TV show “Bones” despite the actor’s arm being a “little sore.”

The twice-divorced Ryan O’Neal, known for his boyish good looks, went from a TV soap opera to an Oscar-nominated role in “Love Story.” He also appeared in films including “Paper Moon,” “Barry Lyndon,” “Green Ice” and “Zero Effect.”

O’Neal had Griffin and Tatum with his first wife, Joanna Moore. Tatum co-starred with her father in the 1973 movie “Paper Moon,” for which she won an Oscar for best supporting actress. O’Neal was romantically involved with Fawcett for years. They never married but had one son, Redmond.

Griffin and Ryan have clashed before. In 1983, police were called to their home after a fight in which the elder O’Neal knocked out two of Griffin’s teeth, the Times reported. No charges were filed.

Griffin was given an 18-day jail sentence for not performing 400 hours of community service ordered by the judge who found him guilty of reckless boating in the 1986 accident that killed Gian-Carlo Coppola, the son of film director Francis Ford Coppola.

He pleaded no contest to a drunken driving charge in 1989 and was sentenced to probation. In 1992, Griffin avoided a possible three-year jail sentence by pleading no contest to charges he shot at his estranged girlfriend’s unoccupied car. At the time, he agreed to spend one year in a live-in drug rehabilitation program and serve five years on probation.

Ryan O’Neal Arrested And Accused of Assaulting His Son

Oscar-nominated actor Ryan O’Neal was arrested for investigation of assaulting his adult son at the actor’s Malibu home over the weekend, officials said.

Deputies and paramedics were called to O’Neal’s Malibu residence at 12:30 a.m. Saturday “regarding a battery that had occurred,” said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. John Benedict.

“Deputies determined … Griffin O’Neal, his son, had been assaulted by his father,” Benedict said.

The elder O’Neal, 65, was arrested and accused of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm. He was released on a $50,000 bond.

It was unclear what started the dispute, but O’Neal’s manager, Neil Hassman, claimed the actor was defending himself after his son began “wildly swinging a fireplace poker.” Griffin O’Neal’s pregnant girlfriend was slightly injured in the incident, and was treated at a hospital and released, Hassman said. He maintained that her injuries were caused by the younger O’Neal.

“It is unfortunate that what should have been an internal family disagreement was escalated to the point that Ryan felt he had to defend himself from Griffin’s aggressive, extremely menacing physical behavior,” Hassman said in a statement to “The Insider.”

Griffin O’Neal could not be reached for comment; there was no listing for his phone number.
