The Spanish National Basketball team that is currently representing their country in Beijing is in some hot water for an ad running in Spain.  The ad in questions shows the members of the team using their fingers to pull their eyes back in an attempt to make them look more Chinese.

The photo, which has been running as a full-page newspaper spread in Spain since Friday, shows all 15 players making the gesture on a basketball court adorned with a Chinese dragon. The photo was part of a publicity campaign for team sponsor Seur and is being used only in Spain.

Not only was this gesture offensive and something you would never do to an a person if you were face to face the players don’t see to see the issue.

“We felt it was something appropriate, and that it would be interpreted as an affectionate gesture,” Spain point guard Jose Manuel Calderon, who plays for NBA’s Toronto Raptors, wrote on his ElMundo.es blog. “Without a doubt, some … press didn’t see it that way.”

Sure we all know that the New York Jets have signed Brett Favre to play quarterback this year and that he is causing a huge swell in jersey sales, ticket sales, and press requests, but did you also know that the Jets have signed Jenn Sterger to work for the club?  Oh yes that is huge news!  Jenn shot to game in 2005 when an ABC cameraman picked her out of a Florida State game crowd and the rest is history.  Jenn became an instant sensation at Florida State and has taken her good looks to the pros.  Her job with the Jets will be as a Gameday Host.  Now I have gone to Jets game since 1993 and I don’t recall having anyone like Jenn host me when I got into the stadium.   Her role will inolve interviewing celebrities, hosting a pregame segment, and will have a role during timeouts and halftime.  Well atleast if we go 4-12 again I will have something nice to look at on the sidelines.

If you are on the east coast and were up around midnight last night you witnessed one of the greatest swimming relays in Olympic history.  The US Men’s 4×100 Relay was seen as the week leg on Michael Phelps’ quests for 8 gold medals as they went up against a heavily favored French team.  The relay team included Phelps, Garrett Weber-Gale, Cullen Jones, and 32 year old anchor leg Jason Lezak smashed the world record by finishing in 3:08.24.  Along with claiming the new world record Phelps shattered the American record on his lead off leg and Lezak swam the fastest ever relay leg in history.  These new swim suits are definitely making a difference.

On another not having to do with the most unnecessary story of the Olympic games NBC went down the wrong road when they dedicated a piece on French swimmer Laure Manaudou.  They talked about her failed relationship with an Italian swimmer, their break-up, her issues with her coach, the fact that her ex was now dating a world class Italian swimmer that is competing in the same event, and finally about naked pictures (NSFW) that surfaced of the French swimmer.  Considering that Laure was not even in contention to compete for a medal and the favored Italian didn’t even make it to the medal stand was a black eye on the coverage.

I woke up this morning to some wonderful news.  My New York Jets got themselves a quarterback for this season.  In a stunning turnaround the Jets made an offer that Green Bay couldn’t turn down and now Brett Favre is the new quarterback of the Jets.  As a long suffering Jets fan this news makes this season worth watching.  The Jets spent loads of cash on the likes of Alan Faneca, Damien Woody, Kris Jenkins, and Calvin Pace, but had a huge question mark behind center with Pennington and Clemens.  The Jets sent Green Bay a conditional 4th round pick that can go as high as a first round depending on how Favre and the Jets perform. 

At 39 years old Favre is not in his prime, but he is coming off on of his best seasons.  He will not have to carry the Jets this season, but only lead a much improved team compared to last years 4-12 mark.  Favre has two very capable receivers in Coles and Cotchery, two solid running backs in Jones and Washington, and solid tight ends with Baker and ex-teammate Franks.

If Favre is only a one year rental at least he will provide a fun year to watch and make being a Jets fan a bit more fun compared to last season.

With the Olympics kicking off off Friday night with a huge opening ceremony it is tie we start looking for those athletes that might make headlines in Beijing. We look to Brazil to give us two athletes competing in the Summer Olympics staple event of synchronized swimming.  Twin Brazilian 20 year old sisters Beatriz and Branca Feres will surely highlight the event.  Beatriz, who goes by Bia, and her sister Branca  brought attention to their event and their quest for a medal by doing a sexy photo shoot for VIP magazine.  As of right now I will say these are the sexiest twin Brazilian sisters that have posed topless or in a thong leading up to the games.

David Beckham and his LA Galaxy took on the San Jose Earthquake at Mcafee Stadium in Oakland.  Becks didn’t get a goal, but did have an assist in the Galaxy’s 3-2 loss to the Quake. The highlight of the game for most female fans was when David decided his Galaxy jersey wasn’t the right look so he took it off to show his tattoos to the fans.

In a surprise move as the trade deadline approached Brian Cashman and the New York Yankees acquired Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez from the Detroit Tigers for right-handed reliever Kyle Farnsworth.  Rodriguez fills an offensive void in the Yankees lineup that was created when Jorge Posada went down with a shoulder injury earlier in the season and will now have surgery making him unavailable this season.  Rodriguez is batting .295 with 5 homers and 32 RBIs, but aside from that he is excellent behind the plate defensively and will be a nice addition for the Yankees stretch run.  He will join the team today and should be in the lineup when they start a 4 game series against the AL Best Angeles at the Stadium.

Kate Hudson is not finding much luck in the dating world since her marriage ended last year. The star of some crappy movies has become a bit of a serial short term dater and her latest three monther with lance Armstrong is now complete.

A minor league baseball game game between the Peoria Chiefs and Dayton Dragons went from ugly to riot in a matter of batters.  A brawl broke out in the bottom of the first inning after a series of ugly plays.  The top of the first inning saw a Peoria player hit by a pitch which was retaliated for in the bottom of the inning.  Peoria pitcher Julio Castillo proceeded to hit a Dayton player in the head, followed that up by hitting another batter, and ugly slide into second by a Dayton player, and another near head shot by Castillo was the final straw.  A massive 10 minute brawl broke out which delayed the game for over an hour, resulted in 15 player ejections, 3 coach ejections, a fan going to the hospital, and one arrest.  Why an arrest?  Well Castillo decided it would be a good idea to fire the ball into the Dayton dugout.  Of course his control problem caused him to miss the dugout and the ball flew into the crowd striking a fan.  The ejections had to be overturned so the game could be played which Dayton won 6-5.  The tag line on the Peoria Chiefs website is “Your Home For Summer Memories” - well people aren’t gonna forget this anytime soon in Peoria.  Check out the video here.

The Los Angeles Sparks were about to celebrate a big victory of the Detroit Shock when things turned ugly in a hurry.  WNBA superstar Candace Parker was involved in an ugly altercation with under five seconds remaining that saw three player and one coach ejected, Lisa Leslie getting pushed to the ground by Rick Mahorn, another player spraining a knee trying to restore peace.  This is a nasty little fight that took place and I think it marks the first legit brawl in WNBA history.  Good going ladies way to make the WNBA a legitimate sport!

Indy car drivers Danica Patrick and Milka Duno nearly came to blows this weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course during practice runs of the Honda Indy 200.  Apparently Patrick was annoyed that Duno wasn’t allowing faster cars to pass her on the track and felt it her responsibility to let her know about it.  Well telling a Venezuelan woman anything negative will never see good results — just ask my wife.  Duno exchanged words with Partick and slapped her a few times with her towel….so close to an all out catfight!  Luckily we have the video for you to enjoy:)  Check it out here.  Pictures of Duno and Patrick on the flip..

With all the press WTA player Ashley Harkleroad is getting for showing it all off for this month’s Playboy magazine it is nice to see Anna Kournikova getting some attention.  Anna has been out of the WTA for several years after injuries cut short her once promising career that never resulted in an individual singles title, but she made plenty of money by looking sexy in skimpy outfits.  Anna has been staying in shape and took place in the WTT double tournament in St. Louis. Don’t get me wrong I think Danica Patrick is a very attractive woman, but her look on the red carpet of the 16th Annual ESPY Awards makes you shake your head.  From head to toe it is just wrong.  Did she forget to finish the hair or did her credit card not go though so her stylist stopped working it?  I don’t know what the dress is supposed be. Looks like some grey wrinkled paper being held together by a tape measure.  I know she can do better based on this smoking hot pictures from previous photo shoots she has taken part in.
