Matt Lauer insists there’s no hard feelings between him and Tom Cruise.

The Today Show host and the Top Gun star came to blows in 2005 over Scientology’s stance against psychiatric medication — causing headlines across the gloge.

Cruise, 45, admitted that he regretted the spat when he appeared on Oprah last week. And  Lauer says it’s all water under the bridge; and there’s no need for Tom to apologize.

He says, “I don’t think he needs to apologize.

“I don’t feel there are any hard feelings. It was an interview. It was a good moment on television.”

Lauer confessed that he didn’t watch the actor’s interview. “I was traveling,” he tells People.com “I didn’t see the interview. Somebody told me a little bit.”

In fact, Lauer said he would welcome the chance to interview the Hollywood titan again. “The doors are open,” he added. “I hope he comes back and seems me real soon.”

According to friends who partied with the pair in New York earlier this week, Katie, 29, wants to have another baby soon; and has been dropping several hints to her husband.

A source told E! Online: “She said she’s got the itch.

“Now that Suri is more toddler than baby, she said she misses having an infant in the house. And, of course, she thinks Suri would make a great big sister.”

And Tom, adds the source, is “totally into the idea”.

“He said if Katie wants to make another baby, she doesn’t have to ask twice,” said the source. “He always wanted more. It was Katie who has been holding off. Until now.”

Team Cruise and Team Beckham reunited on the red carpet last night at the social event of the season, the annual Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala, which drew a who’s who roll call of international stars.

The quartet put aside rumours of a rift as they posed up together at the glamorous event, but in typical fashion, Posh did her best to steal the spotlight in a see-through white Armani dressing coat.

But with her usual bob swept up into a carefully set chignon and heavily painted face, Victoria’s attempt at Old Hollywood glamour was rather too literal, leaving her looking well beyond her 34 years.

And pout-prone Posh appeared more glum than ever - perhaps it was the pressure of competing with a host of Hollywood actress and supermodels that prompted her look of disdain.

Katie Holmes, who also wore Armani, didn’t fare much better in the style stakes, leaving onlookers shocked and awed at her bright orange dress and cobalt blue stiletto combination.

The extravaganza, billed as Manhattan’s rival to the Oscars, marked the opening the museum’s Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy exhibition, a theme that delighted the ever-excitable Mr. Cruise.

“I’ve always just loved comic books,” he said as he arrived. “I dig those characters.”

Celebrating 25-years in Hollywood, Tom Cruise sat down for the second part of his interview with Oprah Winfrey.

And with a little help from friends and costars, the Hollywood star recounted his career.

“I feel at home on that movie set,” Cruise, 45, told Winfrey. “A lot of times I show up before the crew. And I feel this is what I’m supposed to do.”

On the show, Winfrey gifted audience members with a box set of the actor’s flicks, and showed off choice clips from his movies.

Also on the show were various clips from former costars like Will Smith, Renée Zellweger and friends David and Victoria Beckham, who recorded sweet and funny tributes for the actor, whose breakthrough role was in the 1983 film Risky Business.

Will Smith: “There’s not a single piece of press … a single image in the 25 years of his career that gets anywhere near capturing who he is.”

Jada Pinkett-Smith: “Stuff I want people to know, I can’t say!” she quipped. Seriously speaking, she says, “Nothing that he’s done professionally holds a candle to who he is as a human being – and that’s real.”

Renée Zellweger: “I didn’t need to conjure motivation to say that line,” she says about her famous line, “You had me at ‘hello’” from Jerry Maguire. “I walked in and there he was.”

Victoria Beckham: “[Tom and Katie] really know how to have a laugh.” The former Spice Girl also revealed that she went to see Jerry Maguire on her first date with David Beckham.

Jamie Foxx: The actor’s Collateral costar joked that after crashing a car for a scene in the film, “Tom Cruise is bouncing around in the backseat. I really understood how less of a star I was when they jumped in the car and they said, ‘Jamie, move! Tom, are you OK?’”

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes threw pals David and Victoria Beckham a surprise birthday party — quashing rumors of a rift between the two couples.

LA Galaxy soccer star David had been in touch with the Top Gun actor over ideas for Victoria’s 34th birthday.

Tom, 45, offered his private jet and recommended a trip to a friend’s vineyard in Napa Valley, California.

But when David and Victoria got to LAX airport, what they thought would be a quiet trip for two, turned into a surprise party.

Tom and Katie were reportedly waiting on board. And so were pals Heidi Klum, Seal, Kate Beckinsale and Len Wiseman. The A-listers set a course for the Napa Valley for a tour of the vineyards then had dinner cooked by the private chef.

A source close to the Bechams said: “They were expecting a quiet trip for two, but Tom secretly laid on the trip for Victoria’s birthday last weekend and David’s on Friday. They waited in the jet with cake and champers!”

Tom Cruise opened up to Oprah Winfrey during the first part of his interview with the chat show queen — due to air Friday — and revealed he infamously jumped on her sofa in 2005 because he was so in love with his then girlfriend (now wife) Katie Holmes and couldn’t contain himself.

Winfrey, herself, confessed the incident took her by surprise.

“When we finished that show with you jumping up on the sofa, I was like, ‘Wow. What was that?’” she tells the Top Gun star in an interview which took place in his Telluride, Colo., home. “I had no idea it was going to turn into an international brouhaha, as I’m sure you did not either.

“I was a little nervous coming up this morning, I have to admit, because you and I have not sat down for a real conversation since the sofa incident.”

To which Cruise responded, “I just felt that way, and I feel that way about [Katie].

“I can’t even articulate it, to be honest,” he adds. “That feeling, that connection. Just who she is and what she means to me.”

Of the negative response to his couch jumping, Cruise says, “It just kind of kept going.

“Those things I kind of go, ‘You just have to take in stride.’ It just kind of became a confluence of things.”

The actor, 45, also opened up about his 2005 interview with Matt Lauer, after her attacked the Today Show anchor, calling him “glib” during a chat about psychiatry and the use of anti-depressant drugs.

“I was feeling pressed in the interview with Matt Lauer,” Cruise says. “For me, my issue was really about child drugging. It’s not like it is today, like people are really kind of openly talking about this.”

“I think the parent should be able to and should make that decision,” Tom says of medicating children.

Tom also talked about the time he slammed Brooke Shields in the same 2005 interview for taking Paxil to treat post-partum depression following the birth of her daughter Rowan, saying his comments “came out wrong.”

“What I regret is even discussing Brooke in any way,” Cruise says.

Shields attended his 2006 wedding to Holmes. He says the incident has brought the two of them “closer”.

Tom also talked about Scientology — the controversial cult of which he is a devout follower.

He dodged Oprah’s question about whether he feels people negatively target him because of his Scientology involvement, but said: “It’s a minority religion, and I think that sometimes people misinterpret [it].

“I think the best thing is for people to read about it themselves. I believe people have the right to choose what they believe in.

“The code of Scientologists says you respect the religious beliefs of others,” Cruise adds. “That’s part of being a Scientologist, and that’s who I am as a person.”

Cruise also addressed the leaked video of himself at Scientology events discussing the religion, saying the footage — which appeared online — “was stolen. I was receiving an award that evening for global literacy. It was a very private moment. I’m actually talking to my congregation.”

“It’s [taken] totally out of context,” he adds.

And, on buying a sonogram machine for Holmes during her pregnancy, Cruise says he and and the former ‘Dawson’s Creek’ actress took great pains to keep her pregnancy private. “We went in the middle of the night, and we were very excited — this is such a private moment,” he says.

“My life was already a zoo,” he says. When news leaked, “it was off the charts.

“When you’re having a baby, you just want it to be as safe and as easy as possible.”

Tom also revealed why he kept Suri hidden for so long. When the tot was born, the couple kept her away from the glare of the media. Some blogs speculated that the child was deformed. That talk, Cruise says, was “hard to hear.

“We just wanted to have our baby, have the kids and everyone get to know Suri, get the family up here and just chill and have that time that you never get back,” he explains. “You don’t ever get those moments back.”

On waiting three months to publish her photo in Vanity Fair in 2006, Cruise says, “Kate and I didn’t feel any need to [rush] it. We said, ‘Why? It’s our family.’ We just were on Suri time.”

On Suri, Cruise gushed, “She’s spectacular. She really is just magic.”

And on his marriage to Holmes being fake, Tom said, “That’s laughable to me!

“You just know that they’re trying to sell it and spin it.”

He says Holmes’ Catholic family has welcomed him.

“They’re amazing. I love them,” Cruise says. “You see why Kate is such an amazing woman — incredible integrity and strength. They’re family.”

And on his reputation: “Listen I, I feel like definitely things have been misunderstood, and there are things I could have done better,” Cruise admits. “But then there’s also that world where you go, ‘Oh, it’s been spun to such an extent that … that’s a truth also.”

He continues, “Knowing when and where to communicate, I think that’s important.

“A lot of times I was nervous giving interviews. Or I wasn’t sometimes as comfortable about things. And I realized that it’s okay.

“There’s stuff you have to just let go,” Cruise adds. “I just have to do the best I can.”

He also denied rumors he has pushed Nicole Kidman out of their adopted kids’ lives.

Tom Cruise’s two-part interview on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” includes a snowmobile ride and a frank discussion of his rocky media image, followed by an in-studio celebration of “Risky Business” 25 years ago, a person close to the production told The Associated Press Wednesday.

Cruise talks candidly with Winfrey about his personal life, said the person, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the show and requested anonymity. He discusses his childhood, life with wife Katie Holmes and their daughter Suri, Scientology and a 2005 appearance on “The Today Show” in which he criticized psychiatry and the use of anti-depressant drugs.

Cruise and Winfrey are longtime friends, but they have not seen each other since his infamous couch-jumping incident on her show three years ago, the person said. The actor is currently in talks to star in the fourth “Mission: Impossible” film.

For Friday’s show, Winfrey interviewed the 45-year-old actor at his home in Telluride, Colo., where he shares personal photos and anecdotes with the talk-show queen. Monday’s episode was taped in front of a studio audience and includes appearances by several celebrities who congratulate Cruise on a career that took off when he danced in his underwear in 1983’s “Risky Business.”

“In his 25 years in the business, Tom Cruise has become the epitome of a true Hollywood star,” Warner Home Video senior vice president and general manager Jeff Baker said in a statement Wednesday. “We are very proud of this timeless classic and the film that became his breakthrough role.”

The company plans to release a commemorative DVD of the film, a representative said.

Cruise can next be seen on the big screen in “Tropic Thunder,” set for release in August.

Tom Cruise is set to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible 4.

The actor, 45, decided to take on the role as the all conquering CIA agent after burying the hatchet with billionaire Paramount boss Sumner Redstone.

The pair fell out in 2006 when Redstone dropped Cruise’s production company United Artist Studio because of Tom’s increasingly odd public behavior.

Now an insider says the pair rekindled their friendship and discussed plans for the new film during a meeting at the Beverly Hills Hotel last month.

The insider said: “Tom will make Mission Impossible: 4 once Paramount green-lights the script. There will most definitely be another ‘Mission Impossible!’

“They are in talks, nothing set in stone.”

Tom, a devout follower of the controversial religion of Scientology, was dropped by Paramount following a string of contrived media stunts. He bemused his fan base by climbing atop of cars at his premieres and jumping for joy on Oprah Winfrey’s couch.

Since the split from Paramount, Cruise has attempted to go it alone creating his first film ‘Lions For Lambs’ with partner Paula Wagner last year.

However, their latest project, Valkyrie, based on the assassination of Adolf Hitler, has been set back until later in the year after footage for the film was wiped.

Cher has spoken frankly about how she was once “crazy” for Tom Cruise.

The singer had a brief relationship with the actor, 16 years her junior, at the start of his career.

Only now, as she publicises an upcoming run of shows in Las Vegas, has her version of events emerged.

Reflecting on their affair, she said it could have been a “great big romance” if they hadn’t been forced apart by their filming schedules.

Their affair is understood to have ended when Cruise met Mimi Rogers, six years his senior, who was to become his first wife. He separated from Miss Rogers after three years in 1990.

He went on to marry Australian actress Nicole Kidman the same year and remained with her for 11 years until 2001.

He married third wife Katie Holmes in 2006. The couple have a two year-old daughter, Suri.

Cher has been married twice. Her marriage to Sonny Bono ended after 11 years while her second to rock star Gregg Allman lasted a mere nine days.

She told Oprah Winfrey she was currently single. She broke up with her last serious boyfriend, actor Rob Camilletti, nearly 15 years ago.

“Dating is a strange thing,” she declared. “It’s not every man who can be comfortable with me. Being Cher is a hard thing and difficult for him to hold his place.”

The ‘Top Gun’ star — whose last appearance on America’s highest rated talk show was in June 2005, where he infamously declared his love for future wife Katie Holmes, and promoted film War of the Worlds — is likely to return to Oprah next month.

The focus of the show is not yet known, but the timing of Cruise’s appearance coincides with the 25th anniversary of the actor’s breakthrough role in Risky Business.

A rep for Warner Home Video told MSNBC that there are “special plans” for the anniversary, and details are being finalized.

Other A-listers have reportedly been approached about being involved in the show.

“I’ve never been so happy in my entire life! I have the most amazing wife and children. I couldn’t ask for more,” said Tom, speaking at Suri’s second birthday party Saturday.

A source said: “Katie held Suri for most of the night. Sometimes she would pass her to Isabella. Suri sat on her dad’s lap for a while and later she was running around like any normal little girl.”

The singer — who celebrates her 50th birthday later this year — spoke up about the ‘Top Gun’ star after he and wife Katie Holmes attended a reception for her charity, Raising Malawi.

When asked if she sympathized with Cruise, Madonna said: “I don’t care if people worship turtles or frogs – if they’re good people, that’s all I care about, and he is a good person.

Tom Cruise’s adopted son, Connor, has landed his first movie role.

Connor, who was adopted by Tom and his then-wife Nicole Kidman in 1995, is set to star in the upcoming Will Smith drama Seven Pounds.

The 13-year-old — who has grown up around movie sets with his famous parents — will reportedly play a young version of Smith in a very minor role. Even with Tom and Nicole as parents, Connor had to audition for the part.

“Tom is so proud of Connor,” a source tells People magazine. “He’s proud of him for really doing this on his own.”

The Columbia Pictures film, which is directed by Gabriele Muccino, and still in production, also co-stars Woody Harrelson, Rosario Dawson and Barry Pepper.

Daughter Suri turned 2 on Friday. A four-tiered yellow cake with flowers, butterflies and green trim from Sweet Lady Jane was delivered to their Hollywood Hills home, in addition to bundles of brightly colored balloons. “Happy Birthday Suri!” was written in chalk on the driveway.

The celebration continued Sunday as Holmes and Cruise joined Eva Longoria and David Beckham at Victoria Beckham’s 34th birthday party at Santa Monica restaurant Via Veneto.

Victoria, whose actual birthday was April 17, also celebrated with David and their three sons at Beso restaurant in Hollywood last Wednesday.

The couple — who have a daughter, Suri, together — put on a show of unity just a day after claims circulated that Holmes was on the verge of leaving the “controlling” Top Gun star.

Star magazine claimed that the Katie was being “crushed’” by the marriage; and she was planning to escape to New York with Suri.

The publication quoted a source as saying: “She desperately needs to be on her own for a while, but there’s no way Tom is going to let her take Suri away. He doesn’t want Katie or Suri out of his sight for long. He told her that if she goes to New York, he goes with her.”

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are preparing for a trial separation, it has been claimed.

The former ‘Dawson’s Creek’ star is said to be “crushed by the weight of her marriage” to the Top Gun star — and plans to take their daughter, Suri, with her to New York City. But Tom, say sources, is against her plans.

Star magazine claims that Katie, 29, is “trying to break away from her controlled life under the watchful eyes of her husband and move to Manhattan in what will be a sort of trial separation.”

A source told the publication: “She desperately needs to be on her own for a while, but there’s no way Tom is going to let her take Suri away.

“There’s no way he’ll allow it. He just doesn’t want Katie — or Suri — out of his sight for long. He told her that if she goes to New York, fine, but he goes with her.”

Further, says Star, Tom and Katie’s tug of war over their daughter has intensified as of late.

“Tom wants to call all the shots when it comes to Suri,” says an insider. “He has a lot of rules, and there’s conflict.”
